Summary of Role & Key Responsibilities

The ESG Advisory & Mandatory Reporting Business Line empowers clients’ transition to models of sustainable performance by integrating ESG priorities into business strategy and investment decisions, and rigorously reporting against progress. Specifically, we help companies define and implement an ESG program​, manage and govern ESG data​, and report & disclose ESG performance.

Summary of Role:

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) regulations are rapidly emerging, evolving, and intensifying, presenting both business challenges and opportunities. As companies navigate this complex landscape, they require strategic guidance from experienced professionals who can translate legal complexities into actionable strategies that drive sustainable growth and compliance.

Anthesis seeks an experienced leader to spearhead our ESG Regulatory Compliance Advisory practice. In this role, you will collaborate with strategists, sustainability subject matter experts, to serve our clients and shape the future of corporate sustainability on behalf of Anthesis. 

Key Responsibilities:

Service Offering Leadership
  • Lead the expansion, refinement, and day-to-day operations of our ESG Regulatory Compliance service line, guiding multinational companies through the complex landscape of existing and emerging sustainability regulations;
  • Manage the P&L for the ESG Regulatory Compliance service line, driving profitable growth.
  • Ensure ESG compliance is strategically integrated with broader client sustainability priorities, supporting the achievement of sustainability goals and driving outcomes that contribute to reportable ESG performance metrics;
  • Develop end-to-end compliance management services, from initial scoping evaluations to post-implementation monitoring and continuous improvement;
  • Spearhead the development of our proprietary Risk and Strategy-Based Compliance Framework, enabling clients to quantify and prioritize ESG legal risks based on strategic, financial, reputational, and operational impacts;
  • Oversee the development of industry-specific playbooks and compliance programs that address unique regulatory challenges in key sectors (e.g., apparel, tech, finance);
Team Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of ESG legal and compliance professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Attract, retain, and nurture top talent in the ESG regulatory space, providing career development opportunities and clear pathways for progression within the practice.
Client and Partnership Development
  • Lead high-stakes client engagements, providing strategic compliance advisory services;
  • Build and maintain a robust ecosystem of partnerships with law firms, industry experts, advocacy groups, and trade associations;
  • Oversee operational excellence, including data collection plans, regulatory intelligence systems, and integrated reporting solutions;
  • Develop thought leadership through speaking engagements, publications, and leveraging client case studies to position Anthesis in the developing ESG regulatory market;
  • Design and deliver Board and Executive Training programs, educating C-suite and board members on liabilities and driving a compliance culture


Key Requirements & Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • The ideal applicant will have in-house counsel experience at a multinational corporation in ESG-impacted industries; and/or demonstrated experience from within a consulting organization or law firm
  • 15+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, with at least 7 years focused on ESG or related areas;
  • J.D. or equivalent law degree;
  • Master's degree or other advanced degrees (e.g., LLM in Environmental Law, MBA, Master's in Sustainability);
Skills and Experience:
  • International work experience, especially in regions with advanced ESG regulations;
  • Expertise in integrated reporting solutions (CSRD, IFRS, SEC);
  • Leadership roles in relevant professional organizations.
  • Experience in key sectors such as consumer goods, manufacturing, or technology;
  • Background in change management or organizational development;
  • Proficiency in ESG-related technologies and compliance management software;
  • Deep expertise in at least two major ESG regulatory domains (e.g., human rights due diligence, climate disclosure);
  • Experience advising board members and C-suite executives on complex legal and strategic issues;
  • Strong project leadership skills, including oversight of cross-functional teams;
  • Demonstrated ability to translate legal complexities into actionable business strategies;
  • Public speaking and executive presentation experience;
  • P&L management responsibility in a professional services setting.
