Senior Database Engineers at Array are hands-on technical leaders who focus on the design, development, and optimization of our backend database systems. They work closely with cross-functional teams such as engineering, product, UX, and senior leadership to ensure the scalability, reliability, and efficiency of data systems. Senior Database Engineers bring deep expertise in database management and architecture, focusing on SQL, Postgres, and integrating AI-driven solutions to enhance performance and functionality. This role is pivotal in leading key technical initiatives, mentoring peers, and aligning our data infrastructure with business goals.
Selected candidates will have the opportunity to participate in a 90-day evaluation period, typically structured as a 1099 or C2C contract, though full-time employment can be arranged if needed. During this period, you will be expected to work on complex tasks with some ambiguity, utilize AI tools to enhance efficiency, and collaborate with the CEO, product managers, and senior leadership. At the end of the 90 days, we will evaluate whether to transition to full-time employment, extend the contract, or conclude the engagement.
You Will:
- Be open to feedback on your code and data architecture.
- Focus on backend systems, database optimization, and architecture, with a primary focus on PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Leverage AI tools to automate tasks and improve database efficiency.
- Lead by example, mentoring junior developers and non-developers to successfully adopt AI tools in their workflows.
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams, acting as a force multiplier for productivity.
- Prioritize developer experience and data velocity, ensuring smooth development cycles.
You Have:
- Experience designing and building database systems from the ground up and scaling them to support production users.
- A strong understanding of database performance tuning, optimization, and AI-assisted automation.
- Excitement about AI's role in database management and experience using it to enhance processes.
- Deep expertise in PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server development and architecture.
- A track record of building and maintaining reliable backend infrastructure in an API-driven environment.
- Strong opinions on best practices in database management, with the ability to mentor and influence others.
- A bias towards action and delivery in iterative phases, emphasizing practical solutions over perfection.
Pay Transparency: $80 per hour
