Job Summary of the Microsurgical Instructor
The Microsurgical Instructor is the internal expert with regards to microsurgical training and education. as they apply to multiple medical disciplines. The role is responsible for developing partnerships with internal and external parties in medical and clinical activities that support the strategic direction of Axogen and its strategic imperatives. This position collaborates, executes, and serves as an expert clinical instructor for assigned internal and external educational and training activities. This role will provide technical, and scientific expertise to thought leaders, surgeons, clinicians and Axogen departments as needed. This position ensures adherence to applicable federal, state, and AATB requirements, and company and ethical standards. This position requires the working knowledge and understanding of current techniques. Commanding knowledge of peripheral nerve surgery, including applications of Axogen technologies as well as other microsurgical techniques related to concomitant peripheral nerve surgery. This position requires extensive travel of up to 85%.
Requirements of the Microsurgical Instructor
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in related filed or related professional degree (RN, PA, MD or similar); clinical or scientific focus is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of microsurgical clinical medical education and/or surgical lab trainings and experience, preferably using donated human specimens for the educational purposes
- Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills including the ability to accurately relay a compelling value of Axogen’s portfolio of nerve repair products.
- Excellent surgical and microsurgical skills, nerve and/or reconstructive surgery experience preferred, with the use of both higher magnification surgical loupes and microscope, including the ability to verbalize and demonstrate and transfer micro-surgical techniques for educational or demonstration purposes. (Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of human nerve anatomy and specimen surgical exposure techniques required to demonstrate nerve anatomical location and adjacent relevant structures for the educational purposes.)

Responsibilities of the Microsurgical Instructor
The specific duties of the Microsurgical Instructor include but are not limited to:
- Serve as a technical expert and advisor for Axogen key technologies and products.
- Serve as an internal expert on nerve and related microsurgical techniques.
- Provide training, clinical, and technical support to internal and external customers on Axogen products as it relates to therapeutic indications and scientific publications.
- Supports the sales force by being a local technical, clinical, and scientific expert. This will include attending cases in an as needed basis as technical support.
- Provides insights in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational strategies and training programs.
- Develop educational strategy for surgical modules and builds the associate curriculum.
- Serves as lead instructor/faculty for assigned medical and professional training activities by providing support and hands-on instruction to participants.
- Provides summary report and action plan for each educational event, outlining meaningful attendee’s questions and feedback relevant so microsurgical lab modules and techniques.
- Proactively reads and critically interpret relevant literature.
- Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates SOPs relevant to the assigned area.
- Generate tactical plans to provide needs-based service to internal or external customers.
- Understands and interprets the therapeutic and surgical environments and report findings.
- Creates clinical education summaries to support Axogen strategic imperatives.
- Collaborated and support investigator initiated and Axogen sponsored activities.
- Plan and collaborate on market development activities for new products and indications. Train internal and external key stakeholders on proper use and micro-techniques.
- Develops and executes sales training activities as it relates to products, indications, and technique training related to peripheral nerve surgery and general microsurgery related techniques.
- Expert management of donated human specimens used for education/research/product development evaluation and various departmental internal activities.
- Builds, manages, and maintains relationships with key academic programs, medical collaborators and thought leaders as assigned.
- Ensures compliance with relevant standard operating procedures for required activities ensuring compliance with local, state, federal laws/guidelines, and AATB requirements.
- Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and SOPs.
