About Us:
Blockworks is a financial media brand that delivers breaking news and premium insights about digital assets to millions of investors. Our content, newsletters, podcasts and events provide investors with the critical analysis and information they need to make smarter decisions about digital assets.
Who You Are:
You're a highly detail-oriented person who loves helping teams track and maximize how they use their financial resources. You take genuine pride in your craft as you've honed your accuracy and proficiency with years of successful practice. You love doing analysis to find root causes almost as much as you love presenting the findings in a polished way.
You know how to work efficiently with processes, and you're excited to raise your hand when you see an opportunity to do things better. You're at home working individually, but you shine when you get to work collaboratively with other team members. Lastly, you understand the critical importance of maintaining financial security and have comfort in following internal accounting controls.
What You’ll Do:
As our Senior Financial Analyst, you'll play a critical role in helping us track, manage, and effectively use our financial resources. In collaboration with other members of the Finance team, you'll work to help us monitor accounts, transactions, and financial systems to maximize how we track and manage finances at Blockworks. You'll be responsible for executing financial reporting & controls and proactively communicating to ensure that we are making decisions based on accurate and up-to-date numbers.
Every day will look a little different, but in general, you will do things like:
Execute Monthly Accounting and Reporting Workflows: You will partner in executing and delivering the month-end process. You will proactively communicate results and findings, making sure you have a strong commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
Support Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Initiatives: Collaborate with the FP&A Manager to execute strategic financial planning, analysis, and reporting activities. This includes contributing to budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and providing data-driven insights to support business decisions.
Drive Tax, Audit, and Compliance: You'll be responsible for partnering with internal and external experts to help support our annual financial statement audit, income & sales tax returns, and other compliance requirements across the business.
Support & Own Expense Management: You be responsible for setting up & initiating payments to vendors & contractors, oversee maintenance of expense accruals, and own policy enforcement for G&A expenses. You’ll also help support with managing prepaid expenses and the monthly amortization.
Support Revenue Cycle Management: You’ll be hands-on in our revenue cycle process, coding new invoices, setting up accounts, reconciling bank accounts, and ensuring prompt verification of deposits and outflows. You’ll also be on point to address inquiries from our banking partners and manage accounts receivables collections.
Process Improvement & Implementation: You will be proactively identifying opportunity for improvement across existing processes, and take lead in implementation of new processes across the Finance team.
Experimentation is frequent at Blockworks. Comfortability with being uncomfortable is a must.
What You’ve Done Before:
You have at least 5 years of experience working in an accounting/finance role, ideally in a high-growth startup. In addition to your demonstrated success in an accounting role, you've honed your craft to showcase your accuracy and efficiency. You've got in-depth knowledge of basic accounting procedures, and you're an ace at working with financial systems of all kinds. You have an understanding of ASC 606 and how it applies to the business in addition to directly contributing to a month-end close process with the desire to do it again. You have a successful track record of presenting creative solutions to financial challenges that leverage an accounting and operational mindset.
You consider yourself an organized self-starter and thrive working in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment. You take pride in your ability to problem-solve difficult challenges, no matter the size, and get excited by the idea of finding a “better way” to reach optimum levels of efficiency and effectiveness. You communicate financial information clearly and effectively and work well individually and as a part of a team.
It’d Be Great If You’ve Done This:
Experience in SaaS, crypto, or startup industries will move you to the top of the list. Having public accounting experience will also set you apart from other candidates, but isn't required. If you have any informal leadership experience in working with or leading a finance team, we'd love to hear about that too. Lastly, we'd love to have someone with the demonstrated ability to communicate, present, and influence effectively at all levels of an organization, including executive and C-level stakeholders.
