Position Highlights:


Position Title: Informatics Epidemiologist

Location: Remote

Position End Date: 05/31/2025

Salary: $90,000 plus benefits

 

Overview:

 

The CDC Foundation is seeking a Informatics Epidemiologist to provide epidemiology leadership to the informatics team during implementation, maintenance, and data quality monitoring of electronic laboratory reporting (ELR) messages. The position is situated in the South Dakota Department of Health’s (SD-DOH) Epidemiology, Surveillance, and Informatics Center (ESIC). The mission of ESIC is improving the health and wellbeing of South Dakotans by monitoring disease, creating awareness with data, and collaborating with health partners.

 

 

Qualifications:


·       Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field from an accredited program or university

·       Two years of experience working with an infectious disease surveillance system

·       Extensive knowledge in infectious disease surveillance.

·       Knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics, and public health.

·       Experience working in a public health setting

·       Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate, orally and in writing

·       Broad ability to communicate with professionals, agency officials, public health personnel, the media, and the public, both verbally and in writing.

·       Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Windows

·       Ability to work as a member of a team or independently with minimal supervision, depending on project.

 


Responsibilities:


·       Leads development and monitoring of key health information systems grant metrics

·       Provides epidemiology support to Informatics Team

·       Attends informatics team meetings

·       Develops and disseminates ELR dashboards for submitting facilities

·       Conducts content validation for ELR HL7 messages and message mapping in the Maven disease surveillance system

·       Works with informatics team to implement message mapping guides to modernize data transmission to CDC

·       Identify and implement changes to Maven question packages in response to changing program needs

·       Develop and implement a data quality assurance and reporting plan for ELR, in partnership with the eCR Informatics Epidemiologist and Syndromic Surveillance Epidemiologist

·       Supports the implementation and maintenance of ELR interfaces with laboratory partners

·       Evaluate upconversion of flat files to HL7 messages

·       Maintain partner list at each hospital

·       Collaborates with in-state and commercial laboratory partners to ensure data are actionable and fulfill SD-DOH requirements

·       Generates SAS reports and output files to inform activities and projects

·       Monitors and reports on ELC grant milestones

·       Develop website content page for ELR onboarding partner data feeds

·       Out-of-state travel as necessary to carry out project activities and present findings.

·       Possesses and maintains a valid, current Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable private transport.

This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and the South Dakota Department of Health in order to best support the State of South Dakota in their public health programming.

This position is currently a remote position. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.

This position requires the operation of a motor vehicle as a component of the job responsibilities and duties. In adherence with CDC Foundation’s Driver Safety Motor Vehicle Policy (“Policy”), offers for employment for this position require the Applicant to provide authorization to the CDC Foundation to conduct a Motor Vehicle Record (“MVR”) review both pre-employment and also annually post-employment while in this position.  Additionally, if an offer of employment is accepted, employees in these positions must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence, self-report motor vehicle violations/convictions,and provide proof of acceptable insurance coverage with mandatory minimum coverages as set forth within the Driver Safety Motor Vehicle policy.  All offers of employment and continued employment for this position are contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications of this Policy.
