About the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning The College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University (Cornell AAP) is home to nearly 1,000 students, 120 faculty, and 65 staff members who come together from around the world to take up some of today’s most urgent challenges and advance research, inquiry, and design to build a more just and sustainable future. The Opportunity The Office of Alumni Affairs and Development (AAD) at Cornell AAP is seeking a talented communications professional to join its team as a Development Associate. The Development Associate will report to and work in partnership with the Associate Director of Development and play an integral part in supporting the college’s fundraising and engagement efforts. In this role, the Development Associate will work collaboratively with college and university partners to create and implement stewardship and communication plans that engage, inspire, and recognize our philanthropic partners. The Development Associate will also oversee collaborations with university colleagues on the planning and execution of broad-based appeals and annual fund solicitations. The ideal candidate has demonstrated professional writing experience, preferably in higher education or a nonprofit setting, journalism, and/or marketing, and has proven ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple projects in a busy environment with flexibility, accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail. Key Responsibilities Development Communications: Draft and edit high-quality proposals, solicitations, and reports for major gift prospects and donors to drive fundraising efforts. Execute a communications plan and track all AAD communications to the college alumni and donor community. Work closely with AAP Communications to execute fundraising collateral, including solicitation appeals, printed materials, and other projects tailored for AAP’s audience. Donor Relations and Stewardship: With oversight from the Associate Director of Development, manage a comprehensive and strategic stewardship program for all gifts, supporting and/or executing the creation of tailored impact reports for top donors; oversee the donor acknowledgement process. With support from the Assistant to the Assistant Dean; coordinates with college departments and AAD partners to track gift usage, ensure compliance with gift agreements and reporting, and create content for stewardship activity. Facilitate processes related to donor recognition, which may include named spaces. Annual Fund: Oversee all aspects of annual fund goal setting efforts in coordination with Associate Director of Development and write all solicitation appeals; serve as the lead for Giving Day and crowdfunding campaigns.
