Description
The SC Johnson College of Business: Leading at the intersection of people, business, and technology, the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business is one of the most comprehensive business schools in the nation and includes many areas of expertise not found in any other leading institution. The college is comprised of the university’s three accredited business schools, each of which is recognized as among the best in higher education: the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, and the School of Hotel Administration. Our academic research; industry and community engagement; and undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs all reflect the future of business: flexible, collaborative, and cross-disciplinary. The college community includes 244 research faculty, 44,000 alumni, and nearly 3,300 undergraduate, professional, and graduate students. The SC Johnson College of Business has an unparalleled resource base from which to draw—within the college, Cornell Tech in New York City, and Cornell University broadly. The Cornell Collaboration for International Development Economics Research (CIDER): The Cornell Collaboration for International Development Economics Research (CIDER) is a multi-college initiative launched in 2024, supported by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy, and led by the Cornell S.C. Johnson College of Business. CIDER mounts a range of programs in support of faculty research, outreach and impact in low- and middle-income communities (LMICs) around the world and hosts the Structural Transformation of Agriculture and Rural Spaces (STARS) research mentoring program for early career development economics scholars from the Global South. The common denominator to all CIDER programs is rigorous empirical research in development economics — often in collaboration with researchers across disciplines and subfields — to generate actionable findings to help reduce poverty and unnecessary human suffering and promote inclusive, sustainable development resistant to shocks and stressors globally. The Sponsored Research Lead, CIDER Opportunity: While position responsibilities vary, all people leaders are expected to foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by being trustworthy; respecting all individuals; being flexible; supporting work/life integration as well as healthy boundaries; inviting new ideas, alternatives, and perspectives; speaking up and taking action if others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and recognizing the contributions of others.  The CIDER Sponsored Research Lead is the lead staff member responsible for facilitating CIDER core faculty and STARS Fellows’ successful sponsored research programs. This includes building and maintaining an up-to-date catalog of sponsored research funding opportunities accessible and appropriate to CIDER faculty and STARS Fellows, and sharing a digest of such opportunities and deadlines, building and maintaining a restricted access (to CIDER faculty and STARS Fellows) library of successful grant proposals that CIDER faculty and STARS Fellows can consult in developing their own new proposals, working closely with CIDER faculty and STARS Fellows principal investigators (PIs) and the Office of Sponsored Research for pre-award support for grants and contracts proposals led by CIDER faculty and STARS Fellows PIs, post-award technical support to CIDER faculty PIs with routine technical reporting to sponsors (complementing OSP/SFA management of the administrative parts), Institutional Review Board submissions, etc., working with communications colleagues to capture and publicize highlights from sponsored research so as to raise the profile of CIDER and STARS research. The Sponsored Research Lead will routinely represent Cornell in meetings and negotiations with external partners and funders. The position may entail research support to any of a broad portfolio of research projects involving one or more CIDER core faculty from across the four Colleges. This staff member will also participate in CIDER training programs for pre-docs and STARS Fellows and may help with research workshops, especially those related to sponsored projects. This is initially a 75% effort (30 hrs./wk.) appointment. As CIDER’s revenue stream grows over time, or as faculty with successful large grants build time for this position into their award budgets directly, we expect the role to expand to 100% time.
