About the Role
Our ESS Ascend Platform team is responsible for managing the cloud infrastructure and observability for Ascend Products in Experian Software Solutions (ESS) division. We are seeking a Staff Engineer for our team to help us continuously improve how we build, monitor, secure and run our rapidly growing cloud platform. Much of our software development focuses on building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. On this team, you will have opportunity to use your expertise in cloud infrastructure design, coding, design thinking and analytical skills to provide reliable cloud infrastructure and observability tools for the rest of the product development teams.
What you’ll be doing
The Cloud Platform team drives the creation of scalable, resilient, and stable environments through Infrastructure as code. We are looking for organic innovation and adoption of cutting-edge cloud technologies in the frameworks and tools we develop for Infrastructure provisioning and service deployments. We are looking for an engineer who can provide thought and design leadership and establish best practices. This role spans defining & implementing cloud platform frameworks including container Orchestration platform (example: eks), IaC and self-service capabilities that helps analytics/batch/streaming/transactional workloads.
• Build our platforms, systems and infrastructure using your solid solution design expertise on cloud.
• Work closely with product development teams, provide hands-on engagement to develop, direct and implement reliable, secured and cost-effective cloud solutions.
• Participate with a cross department-functional team to establish a cloud operational governance framework
Qualifications
What your background looks like
Must have skills
- 8 to 10+ years of Software Engineering with 3 – 5+ years in Cloud engineering.
- Expertise in designing highly available, scalable and cost-effective AWS cloud solutions that meet business requirements.
- Expertise in Linux, security, networking, containerization and cloud design patterns.
- Expertise to develop and maintain infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform to automate provisioning and deployment processes.
- Evangelize standardized process and framework across services wherever relevant with the platform, product teams and other stake holders.
- Expertise in Implementing security best practices and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards. This includes configuring IAM policies, VPC settings, encryption, and monitoring solutions.
- Extensive experience with ECS, EKS, ECR, CI/CD and config management tools.
- Deep understanding of Container orchestration fundamentals and architecture.
- Strong working knowledge in continuous optimization of AWS resources for performance, cost, and reliability. This may involve analyzing usage patterns, implementing caching strategies, and scaling resources as needed.
- Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams including developers, application architects and engineering managers to design and implement solutions and align on design decisions.
- Ability to research, evaluate and select the right solutions from new and existing tools.
- Ability to drive technical decisions and initiatives to streamline our cloud infrastructure operations, security, and efficiency.
- Support the extended engineering team in troubleshooting Infrastructure code failures.
- Guide the team through solving complex infrastructure challenges.
- Up-skill engineers through mentoring and code reviews and build subject matter experts.
- Assess deficiencies and points of failure in our system and design resolutions.
- Help the team adopt new technologies on an ongoing basis, to solve complex problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and great attention to detail.
- Experience with observability solutions.
Nice to have skills:
- Assist in building the platform that can host Microservices, APIs and streaming infrastructure on AWS.
- Strong analytical and programming skills in any of these languages - Java, Python, Go etc.
- Experience with BigData technologies is desired.
