About Grafana Labs
Grafana Labs provides an open and composable monitoring and observability platform built around Grafana, the leading open source technology for dashboards and visualization. There are more than 20M users of Grafana around the globe, monitoring everything from beehives to climate change in the Alps. The instantly recognizable dashboards have been spotted everywhere from a SpaceX launch and Minecraft HQ to Wimbledon and the Tour de France. Grafana Labs also helps more than 3,000 companies—including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay—manage their observability strategies with full-stack offerings that can be run fully managed with Grafana Cloud, or self-managed with Grafana Enterprise Stack.
The role
As a Staff Product Designer at Grafana Labs, you will join a growing Product Design organization of more than 25 designers, researchers, and design leaders distributed across six continents. You will be working within a 100% remote R&D organization, so strong, proactive remote communication, collaboration, facilitation, and relationship building skills will be essential to your success.
The primary focus of your role will be to design user experiences for Grafana, which is the original open-source visualization project upon which Grafana Labs was founded (Grafana Labs also works on capabilities that are built on top of the Grafana platform and many other open source projects). You will be designing and shipping thoughtful, accessible, highly scalable interfaces for Grafana’s navigation, search and organize, and team onboarding experiences. You may also be involved in running growth experiments and A/B tests to improve Grafana adoption within our customers’ organizations. The users you are designing for are a mix of individuals at companies with Enterprise or Cloud licenses, open-source users, and internal users of the Grafana platform.
In this role, you'll develop a design strategy for your product area based on business and product strategic priorities, customer and user feedback, and technical considerations. You will work with peers and leaders in engineering, product management, technical writing, and GTM functions to execute on and evolve this strategy.
You will document user needs and pain points, design directions, UX tradeoffs, and detailed designs for specific features and enhancements using a variety of product design artifacts, aiming to provide pragmatic, cohesive, scalable design solutions to business, customer, and user needs. Working with researchers, cross-functional collaborators, customers, and members of the Grafana user community, you will execute and contribute to formative and evaluative research initiatives.
Over time, you will develop deep expertise in your product area and associated customer and user personas, use cases, and workflows that will enable you to make a meaningful impact on the user experience your product delivers to Grafana customers.
You will also have an opportunity to contribute to the evolution of the Product Design team at Grafana by coaching and mentoring other designers, collaborating on team internal initiatives, and helping evolve new ways of working, learning, and having fun together as the team scales.
We would be excited if you bring
- 7+ years of relevant design experience working on B2B/enterprise software products
- A portfolio of effective designs for complex products delivered in a fast-paced environment
- Experience designing tools and services for developers or other highly technical users
- Ability to synthesize business and product strategic priorities, customer feedback, research insights, and technical considerations into pragmatic, cohesive, scalable design solutions

- Experience working independently in a remote environment, combining a bias for action, a growth mindset, and a drive for clarity, transparency, and continuous improvement
- Experience coaching and mentoring other designers
You would stand out if you can demonstrate
- Ability to rapidly gain an understanding of a technical domain and associated customer needs and user workflows in order to design effective experiences within that domain
- Domain knowledge or experience related to observability
- Ability to develop new patterns and components when needed, while still looking after component, pattern, and visual consistency across the Grafana ecosystem
