We are looking for a Principal Product Designer to join our highly collaborative and motivated design team and specifically own/drive the evolution of our Assessments products. You will partner closely with the Product Management and Engineering leaders and play a key role in defining and shaping a holistic experience across Instructure’s product platform. You will also contribute to the evolution of our design team as well as mentor other designers.
- Partner closely with the Assessments Product and Engineering leaders to set the overall strategy for how actionable assessments are woven throughout our end-to-end platform experience (for Admins, Teachers, and Students)
- Leverage AI and other emerging technologies to create innovative and intuitive product design experiences that lead to measurable outcomes
- Oversee a small but mighty team of designers that focuses on the Assessments product space; provide feedback and direction (both on the UX solutions and visual UI) to ensure high quality work as well as professional growth coaching
- Partner closely with your fellow design leaders to establish operational structures and best practices across our entire Product Design team
- Design and build solutions leveraging our InstUI Design System
- Be an advocate for and follow A11y best practices always
- Work with a rapid, iterative mindset, being open and flexible to changes based on user feedback
- Create prototypes and corresponding scripts for user testing
- Make data-informed decisions based on user research, testing, and other analytics
- At least 10 years of experience designing (preferably both the UX/interaction as well as visual/UI) for digital products; at least 2 years at the Principal or Director level
- Previous experience collaborating with Product and Engineering to define the product roadmap and strategy
- Previous experience mentoring or managing other team members
- A portfolio representing your strong design work (UX and visual) on complex digital products (must include data heavy and data visualization examples)
- Previous experience working in the EdTech space
- Very strong storytelling skills; experience presenting to executive and senior leadership
- Strong art direction skills and visual UI experience
- Strong problem solving skills
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written
- Strong work ethic, sense of accountability and ownership
- Strong attention to detail and a systematic thinker
- Deep knowledge and experience designing for A11y best practices
- Great team player who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
- Biased to action, with the ability to iterate rapidly
- Prototyping experience (Figma)
- Experience designing mobile first and responsive web design
