Kindred is a members-only home swapping network that unlocks the ability to live a travel-rich lifestyle through the power of community. By exchanging primary residences with trusted peers, renters and owners alike can match with Kindred spirits and explore new destinations without breaking the bank.
We are on a mission to build a sharing economy that lives up to the name, and we’ve raised $26.5M+ from some of the best investors in Silicon Valley to do so, including Andreessen Horowitz, New Enterprise Associates, Bessemer Venture Partners, Caffeinated Capital, Elad Gil, and the founders of Opendoor, Figma, ClassPass, Clubhouse, Divvy, Gem, and Homebound.
The co-founders are proven leaders from the early team at proptech company Opendoor ($15B+ exit), and have each separately built and scaled products that today do $1B+ annual revenue combined.
We’re looking for the world’s top builders, executors, and believers to join us on this ride.

The Role:
At Kindred, we are not out to build an ordinary company. We show up every day to build something extraordinary, and that starts with an extraordinary team.
In any organization, People Operations is important. But for Kindred, because of the nature of our high-trust, deeply human product, it is existential. Our ability to hire the right talent, execute with precision, and operate in alignment with our values is of unique strategic significance at Kindred, and we’re looking for a phenomenal leader who can join the early team to champion our people operations and shape the future of the team.
This hire will report directly to the CEO, and will be responsible for establishing our People Team functions. Like the rest of our early team, this role will need to straddle operating with team building, and tactics with strategy.
Though we expect this role to initially span HR, recruiting, and learning & development, we are specifically looking for someone who “spikes” in HR. Our expectation is for this role to build out our recruiting, L&D, and other People Operations functions over time through a combination of agencies/contractors and full-time employees.
\n- Define the approach and execute on human resources efforts, including compensation philosophy and calibration, payroll and benefits, decisions around HR and recruiting software, onboarding and offboarding playbooks, company handbook, expense policies, and more.
- Support employees across the organization as an HR business partner, keeping a pulse on employee morale, supporting organizational change management, and partnering with managers through tough people related issues and decisions.
- Serve as an embedded champion of Kindred’s culture in close conjunction with the founding team. This includes implementing traditions, processes, offsites, and more to help Kindred operationalize its values.
- Oversee tactical recruiting efforts, bringing on and managing recruiting support across both junior and executive talent.
- Develop and roll out Kindred’s hybrid workplace policies to bridge remote flexibility with in-person trust building, and partner with the CEO and Chief of Staff on efforts to build out Kindred’s new headquarters “Clubhouse” in San Francisco
- Have at least 6-10 years of experience as an HR professional in a fast-growing startup environment. You’ve been both an executor and a leader, and are excited to do both again. You have accumulated tremendous pattern recognition from your experience, but you also have vision and conviction on how you’d like to do things differently when designing the People Ops function from the ground up.
- Are a masterful, precise, and tactful communicator. You can sell the Kindred vision, engage professionally with candidates across all levels and functions, and convey complex information eloquently.
- Act as an “owner”, and drive initiatives forward autonomously, looping in others as needed for input, delegation, or support with key decisions. You’re great at proactively giving visibility on your work’s status, progress, or blockers.
- Have extremely high EQ. You are great at reading the room, picking up the unsaid, and tailoring your approach as needed.
- Have a passion for culture and team building. You love bringing people together, and are excited to be a cultural leader in an early organization. People operations is your craft and you pride yourself on having a high bar for talent.
- Care personally about the real humans behind the jobs, and are able to build strong and productive relationships with coworkers and candidates alike. Fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment is personal to you.
- Are a scrappy problem solver at heart who drives outcomes and avoids excuses.
- You hold yourself to an extremely high bar for execution, and hold others to that bar as well.
- Can balance many tasks at once and tackle them efficiently in an organized fashion. You are energized by the opportunity to bring order to the chaos of a fast-growing startup (emphasis on fast!). You don’t need others to implement the structure for you to be effective – you create your own clarity.
- Have mastery of HR systems (e.g., Gusto, TriNet) and recruiting platforms (e.g., Lever), and a strong point of view of what tools to use at various times in our organizational life cycle.
- Are a Kindred member!
- Have partnered with TriNet or similar as EoR
- At Kindred, we know that good things happen when we look out for one another. We offer teammates the following benefits:
- Our openings span more than one career level. The starting salary for this role is between $150,000 and $200,000 USD. The provided salary depends on many factors, such as work experience, and transferable skills, business needs and impact, and market demands.
- A vibrant, inclusive, and highly skilled team that ferociously protects team chemistry
- A culture of championship(vs. just mentorship), feedback, and continual development
- Competitive cash compensation and equity
- Unlimited vacation policy
- Full health benefits
- UNLIMITED free stays at Kindred homes during your time as an employee
- $4,000 annual stipend to use toward personal travel costs related to trips in which you are staying at a Kindred home
- Remote-flexible work environment. We encourage team members to travel and adventure!
- Global WeWork passes so you can work comfortably from wherever you are
- Regular offsites to co-locate with the team
