We are looking for enthusiastic Italian teachers or translators to help us improve our interactive reader tool. This tool helps teach Italian through reading by presenting language learners with richly annotated, culturally-relevant, leveled passages.
In this remote contract position you’ll help us improve the tools we use to develop new Italian passages by automating some of our grammar tagging. Your work will mostly involve basic translation and some identification of grammatical features (e.g. part of speech, person/number/gender, etc.) with the aid of our guidelines. We will also request that you attend a limited number of meetings to provide feedback and discuss the results with the rest of the team.
We expect this phase of the project to be limited in scope, involving about 5-10 hours a week total during February and March. However, this project will be revisited several times in future, so we would love to recruit someone who would be interested in doing similar contracting work with our team in the future.
\n- Native speaker/writer of Italian
- Advanced proficiency in English
- Able to identify grammatical features like part of speech, person/number/gender, tense, etc. in Italian with the help of some guidelines.
- Good familiarity with google suite (sheets, docs, filesharing, etc.)
- Able to attend occasional meetings on Google Meets during EST work hours
- Ability to learn new technologies
- Experience teaching Italian to English speakers
- Experience working on natural language processing tagging projects or something similar.
- Degree in language teaching, applied linguistics, or similar
- Writing or editing experience in Italian or in another language
- Experience or expertise in teaching writing or reading
- Passionate about Spanish language classroom instruction
- Must be able to internalize project specifications and adapt personal style to match that of the overarching project
- Able to give constructive feedback tactfully, and to receive constructive feedback
- Strong communication skills and responsiveness on email
- Able to keep own work organized independently
- Proven track record of consistently meeting deadlines
- Enthusiasm for incorporating technology in language learning
- Readiness to unmute in large virtual group discussions to ask questions and contribute thoughts
