How You’ll Contribute The Human Resources (HR) team works to find, grow and retain talent and build the NGS community. HR is dedicated to designing and building people and total reward strategies that enhance employee culture and the employee experience at NGS. The HR department includes the Business Partners, Total Rewards & Recognition, and Talent Management teams, and it leads the internship program. The NGS HR team is continuing to expand, and we’re seeking a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join our dynamic and innovative team to provide strategic counsel to client groups during a phase of exciting growth and strategic change. Reporting to the Human Resources Vice President (VP), the HRBP will provide strategic Human Resources (HR) consultation, guidance and proactive support to designated client groups by defining and executing HR and business strategies, including consulting with team leads across the organization to discuss themes, trends and how leaders can best support the needs of the client groups with guidance from the VP. In this role, you will work in tandem with HR, Senior Leadership, Talent Management, Total Rewards & Recognition, and Strategic Insights & Initiatives teams to cultivate and champion an inclusive and rewarding employee experience at the National Geographic Society (NGS). Your Impact Responsibilities Include: Strategic Counsel and Support (35%) Serve as a strategic business partner, consultant and coach to senior leaders and client groups to help solve complex organizational challenges through creative and people-forward solutions. Consult with leadership to provide strategic advice and guidance on workforce planning and evolve organizational capability in employee engagement, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, succession planning, change management, and organizational design. Diagnose organizational needs and develop practical, creative and innovative solutions to increase team and organizational performance and advance the business strategy. Work closely with the VP to ensure alignment with divisional best practices. Employee Relations (25%) Provide counsel, service and support to managers and employees with a focus on cultivating positive interpersonal and professional relationships. Handle complex employee relations issues with hands-on responsibility for investigations, analysis, documentation, and providing recommendations and resolutions; work closely with legal counsel to address employee relations issues, keeping HR leadership abreast of progress. Advise on interpretation/application of Human Resources policies for managers and employees. Employee Retention (25%) Play a critical role in the organization’s effort to retain staff by supporting talent acquisition, talent management, total rewards, performance management, and leave administration. Work closely with teams across the organization, think boldly and creatively around enterprise objectives such as internship programs, learning and career development programs, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives, and special projects as needed. Participate in and lead projects to continuously evaluate and improve processes and procedures. Coach leadership team on creating talent development plans, share development resources, and partner with leadership to solicit nominations for internal learning and development programs. Recruitment (5%) Partner with hiring managers and Talent Acquisition team on the talent acquisition process, ensuring that teams are carrying out an inclusive and effective recruiting process. Support the offer approval process to assure alignment. Measurement and Evaluation (10%) Work closely with the Strategic Insights & Initiatives team to analyze and present employee survey data and key themes to the leadership team. What You’ll Bring Minimum Education Required Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required. Minimum Years and Type of Experience 7+ years of progressively successful experience in Human Resources or related fields. Necessary Knowledge and Skills Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building communications skills. Experience strategically coaching, consulting with and advising leadership. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining confidentiality and following policy and procedure. Ability to successfully work within a highly collaborative team environment. Ability to successfully design and present HR initiatives to small and large groups across the organization. Our compensation structure and transparent pay philosophy are based on industry-specific market data for similar-sized nonprofit organizations. The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $118,700 - $125,000. Job Designation Hybrid - At the Society, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are Hybrid. Our Hybrid category requires that staff work at Base Camp two days each week: every Tuesday and Wednesday.
