Job Description
OPPORTUNITY AT A GLANCE:
University Supervisors are part-time faculty members at Walden University that regularly observe and evaluate teacher candidates during their demonstration teaching experience. University Supervisors work with cooperating teachers and teacher candidates. University supervisors share responsibilities with cooperating teachers and provide leadership for planning, supervising, evaluating, and implementing the Walden curriculum for teacher candidates during the Fall and Spring terms of each academic year.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate Walden University expectations for demonstration teaching to cooperating teachers and school administrators.
- Provide cooperating teachers with an orientation to Walden University and demonstration teaching.
- Mentor and guide a number of assigned teacher candidates enrolled in a state-approved teacher preparation program.
- Conduct a minimum number of virtual field observations (live streamed or recorded video) for each assigned teacher candidate:
- (4) Four observations during the 12-week demonstration teaching experience.
- Additional observations and communications electronically or by telephone with Walden students. and/or cooperating teachers may be required when deemed necessary.
- Schedule structured conferences with the candidate and cooperating teacher and provide oral and written feedback. Four triad meetings with the cooperating teacher and candidate must occur during demonstration teaching and must include actionable feedback for the candidate.
- Complete formal evaluations of the teacher candidate throughout the demonstration teaching experience.
- Provide the licensure candidate with opportunities for continued professional growth in his or her ability, including support during the candidate’s completion of the Teacher Performance Assessment.
- Serve as a liaison between the university and the demonstration teaching site, offering information and support to cooperating teachers and site administrators as needed.
- Participate in the College’s Orientation for University Supervisors, which covers program requirements and evaluation procedures for candidates.

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Master 's Degree of Education. Required
- Doctorate Degree of Education in the field of study or closely related field (or recognized by a country's Ministry of Education or Counsel of Higher Education). Preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years of teaching experience as the teacher of record and have or have held a teaching license in elementary education (can be expired) – OR – Be a current or former K-12 school administrator with documented experience in teacher evaluation. Required.
- 2+ years online or technology-enabled instruction experience. Preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Faculty members are required to have an adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform, keyboard, pointing device, and computer monitor. All other tools are knowledge-based or training-based through Walden University. The Faculty Member must be able to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat and must have reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable.
- Candidates should possess a significant record of intellectual and professional contributions.
- Commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of students earning their degrees in a distance learning environment.
- Teaching, advising and mentoring; commitment to the promotion of applied research and the recruitment and development of a diverse faculty; excellent leadership, communication, team, and human relations skills.
- Experience with distance learning preferred.
- Faculty Members must be appropriately credentialed, possess an earned degree from an accredited institution or recognized by a country's ministry of education in the discipline being taught, and may be expected to be licensed or license-eligible in order to teach in specific programs.
- Faculty Members must maintain their licenses and any appropriate certifications in order to continue to teach at Walden University.
- Faculty Members are also expected to maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations. If participating in research, the Faculty Member may publish and acknowledge Walden University.
