JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Assistant Director of Strategic Communications plays an integral role in Penn State Great Valley’s Strategic Communications team. The Assistant Director serves as the campus' primary storyteller and web editor, and is responsible for writing and editing news and marketing content and announcements; managing website content; and social media. This individual will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and alumni, most commonly in interviews that serve as a basis for stories. The ideal candidate is a storyteller with the ability to identify various stories and bring them to fruition, who also has experience disseminating content via social media and newsletters, as well as with web content management. The Assistant Director will also drive inbound marketing efforts through the development of content for communications plans, announcements, email newsletters, and more. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Promote Penn State Great Valley by serving as the lead writer and editor for news and as a contributor to marketing content. Work collaboratively with the offices of enrollment/admissions, development, and corporate and community relations to promote programs, events, and success stories. Create, publish, manage. and update content on the Penn State Great Valley website. Requires the use of Drupal 9 software. Develop and manage the campus' social media strategy including development of content and posting to Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, etc. Manage e-mail communications to prospective students and design and create campus newsletters. Requires use of Salesforce, Pardot, and Mailchimp. Photography of news story subjects as well as events and announcements for social media. Occasional evening or weekend event coverage may be required. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. At least three years of professional experience in marketing and communications, preferably in higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience are preferred. Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills. Must be self-motivated and organized with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, and relevance in writing. Strong storytelling, writing, research, and interview skills. Previous experience working with Drupal, Salesforce, Pardot, Mailchimp, and/or Workfront is a plus. This position offers the possibility of a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process. Occasional travel to University Park is also expected.
