As an incoming team member in the Office of the Budget and Finance, it will be expected that all employees embody and model Penn State’s and Finance and Business's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The unit of Loan Servicing & Collections within the Office of the Bursar is seeking a motivated individual to fill a full-time position as Collections Representative – Senior Support. The position is primarily responsible for loan servicing and the collection of delinquent student accounts for the University by placing and responding to calls and online queries from students, parents, and third-party agencies. Additional responsibilities include: Process payments, including remote deposit, and perform end-of-day reconciliation Process payment agreements Perform address searches and update account addresses Process Total Permanent Disability assignments/cancellations and death cancellations for delinquent student account balances, Federal Perkins loans, and University loans Process incoming/outgoing mail, including scanning and indexing Process deferments and certification for enrolled students, physicians in residency programs, AmeriCorps and Peace Corps participants, and active due military Perform collections calls for past due tuition and loans, offering payment plans, when applicable. Monitor student accounts to identify and resolve defaulted payment plans This position also serves as the main contact for one of the contracted collection agencies. This includes verifying Placement Acknowledgements and Close and Returns reporting and completing quarterly inventory reconciliations. The successful candidate for this position must: Maintain a high level of professionalism and the ability to meet specific deadlines and demonstrate the ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously Communicate clearly and accurately, both verbally and in writing Possess strong organizational skills with an attention to detail Comply with Federal Regulations, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and privacy laws such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) Minimally requires an Associate’s Degree and 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications. Experience with student and business systems/software is highly desirable. This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.
