JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Job Description The Infrastructure Division within Penn State Information Technology is looking for a Network Engineer to join the Enterprise Networks and Communication Services (ENCS) Network and Design team. The Infrastructure Division provides a world-class set of technologies and services to a world-class university, providing solutions and platforms on which the Penn State community can do great things. This position has flexible work arrangements encompassing both in-person and remote work; the position will require regular weekly work on campus and occasional on-call support. Questions related to the structure of the flexible work arrangements should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process. This position reports to Manager of Networks and Design and will be responsible for the following: Designing, diagnosing, and correcting network troubles and performance issues Analyzing network traffic Ensuring proper operation of new network services Assisting in development and acquisition of network automation for the University Enterprise Network (UEN) and Data Center Network (DCN) Identifying opportunities for process improvement, make suggestions for changes, and lead implementation teams Be the technical point person for the UEN and collaborate effectively on the team with individuals having other focal points. Regularly interact with equipment and circuit vendors, Penn State faculty, staff, and students. The ideal candidate for this position will exemplify excellent customer service and team collaboration as well as thrive on helping people achieve great technological outcomes. Required Skills, Competencies, & Relevant Work Experience This position will be filled as a Senior Professional. This position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree and 6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and Industry standard network certifications preferred. Background with network automation, enterprise LANs, authentication methods, VLANs, Spanning Tree, and Layer 3 switching Experience with network monitoring applications Experience with System Administration of virtual machines Moderate knowledge of data manipulation via structured queries and regular expressions Experience/familiarity with: Brocade VDX/Juniper product line; IP fabrics, EVPN, VXLAN, firewall administration; Python scripting and Ansible is preferred. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, detail oriented, well organized, and a self-starter with the ability to work with diverse teams in a fast paced, dynamic environment This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
