JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Industrial Partnerships (OIP) is seeking a Program Director to build Penn State’s industry research readiness. OIP was formed in 2014 as part of a broader strategic initiative at the University to enhance both economic development, industry outreach, and student career success. The successful candidate will develop tools and curricula for faculty engagement; project manage and implement large scale initiative, including tracking of metrics for success, staff oversight, and foster a collaborative environment across Penn State and with external partners. Responsibilities: The Program Director will have the following responsibilities: Support the implementation of strategic programming, providing project management, development and tracking of metrics and associated dashboards, oversight and management of programs. Assist with grant and other proposal writing, including developing and gathering documents, organizing materials, assemble and support teams of internal and external stakeholders involved in the development of the proposal, and other proposal-related support. Develop, execute, and provide oversight and management of the industry engagement program focused on training faculty, grad student and post-doctoral resulting in increasing corporate engagement, increase sponsored research funding, faculty sabbaticals with industry, and other forms of engagement. The training program will include but not limited to both in-person and remote workshops, seminars, panel discussions, focus groups, and other content to provide guidance, best practices, and hands-on strategic planning for faculty seeking industry research funding. Provide budgetary support and approvals, supervising staff involved in development of reports and other budgetary and expenditure activities. Identify, collect, analyze and integrate research and corporate data for technical reports that will be used for development of strategic partnerships and initiatives. This position will provide oversight and management of data analytics staff in support of this work. Obtain the necessary training and be designated as the SalesForce CRM “super user” to be rolled out across Penn State, supporting all of the Office for Industry Partnership and its sub-units. Oversight and management of large scale events for promoting Penn State research that will involve high level internal and external stakeholders, including oversight of staff providing support of the various events. Work across diverse stakeholders to identify needs, aspirations, and obstacles to establishing strong industry partnerships and assist in developing industry engagement plans. Supervision of undergraduate and graduate student workers as needed. Other duties as assigned. Additional qualifications: Effective project management skills, including the ability to successfully manage multiple projects from inception through completion is required. Experience with any CRM such as SalesForce is desirable. Track record for producing quantifiable results, both individually and in teams Self-starter, problem-solver, detail-oriented, innovative and entrepreneurial mindset. Commitment to a standard of excellence, enjoy learning new skills, and working at a fast pace. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of the current and emerging technologies and how these technologies may impact research and industry-university relationships. Successful experience with budget planning and management allocating resources strategically. Successful supervisory or people experience, including developing employees, consultants, volunteers, and student interns to achieve desired outcomes. Ability to bring innovative and relevant programs and partnerships to life, while working with students, faculty, and staff in a supportive environment. Ability to collect relevant data and apply predictive analytics for planning and assessment of initiatives. Direct, supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff. Education and Experience: This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of relevant experience (preferably industry experience), or an equivalent combination of education and exper. The successful candidate will have: familiarity with contracts, federal and industry sponsored research. systems-thinking and an ability to troubleshoot complex challenges. the ability to present strategic plans to diverse audiences. the ability to inspire others to work towards a common goal.
