VP of Provider Contracting leads and directs the Provider Contracting team to ensure contracting initiatives are successfully performed is responsible for developing and implementing the strategic initiatives for the department.
Essential Job Functions for the VP of Provider Contracting
- Directs the Provider Contracting team including hiring, disciplining, training/developing, evaluating, scheduling, etc. to ensure department is adequately staffed and functioning at desired capacity
- May negotiate on various levels including, PHO/IPA networks, national contracts, hospitals, ancillary providers
- Collaborates with the VP of Human Resources regarding staff issues involving policy violations, training/development, and performance management
- Conducts regular meetings with the Provider Contracting team to review goals and objectives, individual performance stats, departmental/company updates/successes, and to recognize accomplishments of the team
- Updates the CEO regarding the Department’s initiatives, successes, and statuses/challenges
- Collaborates with (assigns leads) and serves as a resource to the VP of Hospital Contracting regarding contract pricing and approval
- Meets on a regular basis with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure alignment of goals / objectives, to solicit input and feedback as needed, and provide departmental status update
- Conducts quality reviews/audits of provider contracts agreements to ensure compliance
Requirements
VP of Provider Contracting Education and Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- 10 + years of experience in healthcare management, provider contracting, or network development
- 5 + years in a senior leadership role within managed care, health insurance or a provider organization
Competencies of a VP of Provider Contracting
- Proven experience negotiating complex contracts with healthcare providers, hospitals and physician groups
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and customer service/public relations skills
- Experience working in a deadline driven, fast paced environment
- Must be flexible, adaptable, and creative
- Demonstrated time management, problem solving, and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with others
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
