Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to work remotely for our Brisbane, Australia-based client. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
Legal Trust Accounting
Manage and maintain the firm's trust (escrow) accountEnter transactions in and out of the trust accountProvide receipts and statements to clientsEnsure proper disbursement of funds from the trust accountComply with Queensland legal trust accounting regulations
General Bookkeeping
Enter and reconcile invoices in Xero accounting softwareMaintain up-to-date profit and loss statementsEnsure balance sheet reconciliationVerify and approve entries in Xero
Payroll Management
Oversee payroll processing through XeroLiaise with the support team to ensure accurate leave (sick leave, annual leave) entries
Invoice Processing and Payment
Review and verify invoices for authenticityUpload payments to the banking systemPrepare payment proposals for director/CEO approval
Invoice Generation
Generate and issue invoices to clients for legal services performed and expenses
Client and Staff Communication
Address billing inquiries from clients and staffCollaborate with lawyers on service-specific billing issuesGenerate reports to alert lawyers when work-in-progress (unbilled services performed) and/or debtor balances are exceeding monies in trust, and also when estimates are close to exceeding (or are exceeding) estimates for billings
Financial Performance Monitoring
Track and report on staff financial performance to the director/CEOIdentify underperforming lawyers based on revenue generationPerform random checks to identify if lawyers are failing to record time on invoices
Cash Flow Management
Monitor and manage the firm's cash flow
BAS (Business Activity Statement) Preparation
Prepare and submit BAS reports for GST (equivalent to VAT or sales tax in other countries)
Additional Accounting Duties
Perform other tasks typically associated with a company accountant role
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldMinimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a law firm or professional services environmentStrong knowledge of accounting principles and practicesProficiency in Xero accounting softwareExcellent English language skills (written and verbal)Strong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAttention to detail and high level of accuracyAbility to work independently and manage time effectivelyFamiliarity with Australian accounting standards and practices (preferred)
