Overview
The People & Culture Generalist is responsible for providing an exceptional employee experience during an employee’s life cycle from onboarding to offboarding. The P&C Generalist is an integral part of the People Operations team, seamlessly delivering all aspects of the employee experience to the business by partnering with various stakeholders. Our team consists of ambitious leaders who celebrate teamwork and our Tonal values. This role requires someone who is comfortable switching hats with a business mindset while leading with empathy. In this role, it’s ok not to have all the answers, but you’ll thrive in this team if you are someone who can research, create, and implement a solution.
This position will report to the Manager, People & Culture, and is based in the US or Ontario. It will be remote-first, with anticipated travel 1-3 times per year.
\n- Deliver a full spectrum of both strategic and tactical HR support and programs to the organization from educating the business on compensation practices, labor and employee relations, performance management, and career development to advising on various management issues
- Execute short and long-term strategic initiatives of various parts of our HR sub-function; employee engagement, quarterly conversations, and employee playbook
- Manage HR inbox; be the point of contact for employee questions and requests, and escalate to stakeholders as necessary
- Elevate, innovate, and execute onboarding and offboarding processes through communication with employees, conducting exit interviews, and ensuring accurate tracking and completion of offboarding tasks (payroll notifications, exit surveys, IT tickets).
- Run and analyze employee-related data and share findings with key stakeholders. In this role, you should be comfortable with basic Excel commands Coach and support supervisors and managers on employee performance issues, disciplinary actions, terminations, employee conflicts, policy violations, etc.
- With direction, investigate employee issues and complaints; make recommendations to resolve issues, and ensure timely and appropriate actions are taken
- Support retail field talent acquisition activities including creating and posting requisitions, interview training, processing job offers, and setting up required pre-employment screenings
- Exercise knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of team members, reducing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance for the US and Ontario Partner to drive diversity initiatives with consideration for talent movement, recruiting, and employee representation
- 3+ Years in an HR/People Operations role

- Detail-oriented. Thoroughly and accurately completes tasks while effectively managing projects simultaneously, prioritizing urgent needs, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment

- Experience with Paylocity
- Familiar with Canadian labor laws and regulations
The range of base salary for the position is between $60,000 - $95,000 USD plus equity and benefits. We take into consideration an individual’s background, experience, and location in determining their salary. This role is also eligible for health insurance, retirement savings benefits, life insurance and disability benefits, flexible paid time off, parental leave, and other additional benefits.
