Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our team and play a key role in designing, implementing, and optimizing data pipelines. This position focuses on analyzing and categorizing inbound data, ensuring seamless connectivity, and efficiently moving data into Snowflake or a similar data lake. The Data Engineer will work with diverse data sources, implement robust ETL/ELT processes, and establish governance measures to ensure data quality, security, and accessibility.
Success in this role requires strong technical expertise in SQL, cloud data warehouses, and data integration tools (e.g., Airbyte, Fivetran). The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment, working closely with data scientists, developers, and project managers to build scalable, high-performance data infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Data Analysis and Categorization
Analyze inbound data sources to assess structure, quality, and format.
Categorize data based on relevance, sensitivity, and business needs.
Define data schemas and metadata in collaboration with stakeholders.
Data Pipeline Development
Establish connectivity to various data sources, including APIs, databases, and file systems.
Build and configure ETL/ELT pipelines using tools like Airbyte or Fivetran to move data into Snowflake.
Ensure data is properly transformed, cleaned, and stored for downstream analytics and reporting.
Data Governance and Security
Implement data governance policies, including ownership, access controls, and compliance measures.
Ensure adherence to data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
Apply encryption, authentication, and authorization mechanisms to secure sensitive data.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, developers, and project managers.
Create and maintain documentation such as data dictionaries and pipeline designs.
Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions to key stakeholders.
Performance Optimization and Maintenance
Monitor pipeline performance and optimize workflows for efficiency.
Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in a timely manner.
Plan for scalability to accommodate increasing data volumes and new sources.
Qualifications and Job Requirements
Experience
3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
Proven expertise in ETL/ELT development and data pipeline engineering.
Hands-on experience with data integration tools like Airbyte, Fivetran, or similar.
Technical Skills
Strong SQL proficiency and experience with relational databases.
Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses (preferably Snowflake).
Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow).
Proficiency in Python or another relevant programming language.
Solid understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and data architecture best practices.
