Our agency focuses on a sustainable energy future – from renewables to resiliency to cutting-edge innovations. We are now accepting internship applications from students in accredited degree programs who have completed at least their freshman year in an Associate or Bachelor's degree program, as well as students enrolled in graduate school. The Energy Planning & Innovation (P&I) Division supports the agency mission by pursuing programs and policies that help Oregonians conserve energy, use energy more efficiently, and produce energy using renewable sources. The Division’s two sections: Energy Efficiency & Conservation and Energy Technology & Policy collaborate with the Department’s other divisions and stakeholders to help support the development of clean energy resources and integrate those resources into the State’s transmission and distribution system. The division offers energy expertise across sectors, including efficiency in buildings and manufacturing as well as alternative fuels and infrastructure, while helping Oregon build a more resilient energy system – one that is well prepared to respond to issues such as climate change and natural disasters. The division also helps the State pursue strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable transportation. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING The primary purpose of this internship is to research, collect, validate, analyze, compile, and organize data on the businesses’ energy needs, by geography, by business type, by utility territory, local governmental and NGO resources and providers, then create deliverable for ODOE (and network, businesses, public). This is a part-time hybrid internship opportunity. We anticipate up to 20 hours per week, allowing for flexibility with school schedules. The incumbent will be expected to work at the central workplace located at 550 Capitol St. NE Salem, Oregon during orientation and on a more frequent basis with advance notice as needed. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR The most successful candidate will also have the following skills, experience, and background: Experience handling data sets, a familiarity with basic statistical analysis, and processing data into an Excel worksheet. Experience conducting research using internet search tools, government or trade association data resources, and academic publications. Self-motivated and able to work independently, under the guidance of a mentor and/or supervisor. Experience synthesizing information and creating related summaries and presentations.
