Job Description
We are looking for a Faculty Development Specialist to join our team.
The Faculty Development Specialist oversees the development of all faculty joining Unitek, with the goal to enhance faculty efficiency and student experience at the college. The position is responsible for creating and coordinating teaching learning activities, assessing the learning and development of each participant, developing training content, evaluating, and assessing the program and process to provide faculty development and enrichment.
- Plan scholarly and creative teaching and learning activities to include developing and conducting training needs assessments.
- Follow training and faculty development programs by researching topics, reviewing, and evaluating content materials, and making recommendations for improvement to the manager of faculty training and development.
- Assist program directors and designees in resolution of problems related to teacher development.
- Coach faculty members on classroom delivery and performance practices.
- Evaluate instructor progress and learning with training and professional development initiatives.
- Assess teacher development programs for improvement by developing evaluations and maintaining metrics and measures; coordinate specialized training for faculty development goals.
- Review current institutional programs and practices and consults with faculty development leadership, program facilitators and faculty leaders to continuously improve and deliver high quality programs/instruction.
- Facilitate new teacher development courses; schedule follow up sessions with beginning teachers as needed.
- Apply best practices in teaching, instructional design and development and pedagogical theories and process.
- Participate in ongoing and planned teacher development programs presented by teacher, facilitators, or external experts to ensure the quality of instruction and the achievement of stated goals.
- Assists, maintains, and creates learning records, performance evaluation models, and development plans using integrated technology methods and systems.
- Evaluate instructor progress and learning with training and professional development initiatives.
- Creates tools, learning aides, checklists, and development processes and systems that will improve, strengthen, and enhance performance for program directors and diverse faculty populations both in administrative and classroom environments.
- Delivers routine surveys regarding onboarding, monitors results, and makes recommendations for future improvements to the onboarding content and experience.
- Produce/write/deliver faculty professional development initiatives as assigned/needed to include but not limited to any combination of the following: teacher development in-service sessions/webinars/Ed Chats; newly designed curriculum; scholarly articles and newsletters.
- If possible, and when applicable, serve on one (1) curriculum review committee each year.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of higher education best practices in faculty development programs, training, and methodologies.
- Knowledge of cooperative learning techniques, methods, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of and experience in faculty certifications, instructional design and development, and instruction.
- Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and theories.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of campus and corporate management and faculty and staff regarding development issues.
- Ability to deliver relevant training, design and develop training plans and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
- Must have strong facilitation skills, be self-motivated and use independent judgment.
- Skill and proficiency in the use of a personal computer and related software applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.
- Skill and proficiency with distance learning and learning management systems.
Salary Starting at $70k
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education or a related field is required.
- Secondary Education Teacher Certificate or experience is required.
- Three years of experience teaching adult learners.
- Remote with occasional travel required when needed.
- Motor Vehicle Report is required in addition to background check and drug screen.
