Upwork ($UPWK) is the world’s work marketplace. We serve everyone from one-person startups to large, Fortune 100 enterprises with a powerful, trust-driven platform that enables companies and talent to work together in new ways that unlock their potential.
Last year, more than $3.8 billion of work was done through Upwork by skilled professionals who are gaining more control by finding work they are passionate about and innovating their careers.
Upwork is looking for an experienced and collaborative Senior Product Manager to develop solutions to user problems, deliver tangible business impact, and lead delivery of highly interdependent product capabilities for our Work Management product area. Work Management is the heart of Upwork and it is instrumental to both sides of our marketplace (client and talent) interacting with each other to form a working relationship, and subsequently complete their jobs to be done through the partnership on Upwork. We believe that stellar customer experience starts with robust platform capabilities. This Senior Product Manager will partner with the Director of Product, UX Design teams, UX Research, and Engineering to contribute to the vision and user experience for the future of Work Management. Developing products to support multiple geographies carries with it many challenges, especially for a core product capability that touches most other products within the ecosystem, as such candidates with experience delivering software at scale are preferred.
The ideal candidate will have the demonstrated ability to manage multiple technically complex and highly visible projects concurrently, with a keen ability to prioritize and clearly communicate amongst conflicting opportunities and requests. Due to the interconnectedness of Work Management, this role requires strong collaboration skills, attention to detail, and assertive project ownership to drive results across multiple other product lines and cross functional leaders. This role is fully remote and will report to the Director of Product Management, Work Management.
Your Responsibilities:
- Lead with influence to inspire your product development team to solve new problems; without managing, you will be responsible for driving the roadmap definition forward alongside cross-functional peers.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, UX Design & Content, UX Research, Analytics, Marketing, and Support, to deliver innovative solutions with measurable business and user impact.
- Drive the vision, strategy, and execution of initiatives aimed at improving job outcomes and increasing economic opportunities for our global customers across both marketplace and enterprise business lines.
- Develop and maintain a product roadmap, prioritizing features and enhancements based on customer needs, market trends, and business objectives.
- Define key input and output metrics to measure the success of product initiatives, and use data-driven insights to optimize product performance and the user experience.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity within the Product Management team, ensuring that user feedback, problems, and needs are at the core of our product development process.
- While this is an Individual Contributor role, we are looking for a leader who will provide mentorship, guidance, and direction to other product managers to ensure their success and growth.
What it takes to catch our eye:
- Has grit and acute ownership: This role has General Manager-like aspects with high interdependence. We take pride in driving outcomes between teams and optimizing end-to-end experiences.
- Demonstrated prior experience delivering global, large scale platform products with complex technical requirements.
- Ability to synthesize complex data and identify actionable insights to tell a succinct data story.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive product vision, and execute on product roadmaps.
- Is highly collaborative and enjoys working in partnership with many areas to identify goals and work together to achieve them
- Ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership.
- Familiarity with the freelance and gig economy landscape, with a passion for creating economic opportunities for people around the world.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and an understanding of software development best practices.
- Prior experience in a two-sided marketplace or a similar platform-based business.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
- Experience with international markets and the nuances of different regions.
