ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.



This position is reliant upon funding and may be subject to modification or termination based on resource availability.



POSITION SUMMARY:


The Employment Specialist position will build and maintain positive ongoing relationships with employers, enroll refugee clients into employment services, prepare and place refugees in appropriate employment opportunities, follow-up with refugees placed in jobs, complete paperwork/data entry, assist with grant reporting, and perform other tasks as assigned.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Client Services   
  • Conduct initial employment orientations for refugees.     
  • Enroll clients into the NC Refugee Support Services Program.     
  • Assess client’s skills and experience in order to develop an employment plan with reasonable employment goals and strategies that will lead to employment.   
  • Ensure services, which support and strengthen clients’ motivation and capacity to become self-supporting, are provided in a planned, effective, and timely manner to eligible clients.     
  • Communicate employment related information to clients, this includes orientation to Working in America and employer expectations. 
  • Provide job counseling and assist clients to develop effective job applications, resumes, and interview techniques.   
  • Teach and/or coordinate Vocational Skills Training Class and other classes using prepared curriculum.     
  • Schedule clients for weekly Vocational Skills Training Class.   
  • Schedule interpreters when needed.   
  • Provide follow-up and case management to support clients post job placement.     

  • Administrative Responsibilities   
  • Maintain a case file for each client enrolled. 
  • Document activities through timely case notes that reflect status.   
  • Schedule and complete NC State Employability Plans.   
  • Maintain all employment program requirements and complete appropriate reporting.   
  • Regularly coordinate with Resettlement Case Workers and other staff as necessary.   
  • Participate in employment team meetings, WR meetings and other scheduled activities as required.   
  • Maintain World Relief and grantor policies, standards, and requirements.   
  • Accurately enter data into the NC Refugee Information System (RIS) in a timely manner.   
  • Maintain databases and reporting requirements to keep data current on a regular basis.   
  • Submit all required reports to appropriate grantors and managers in an accurate and timely manner.   
  • Assist in teaching Vocational Education classes.   
  • Work with community colleges to ensure that clients are enrolled in classes as appropriate and to establish additional ELT classes appropriate to the needs of clients.   
  • Research and supervise job-related skills courses in the community available to qualified clients needing specific job training.   
  • Arrange transportation for clients to orientations, classes, and job interviews.   
  • Partner with fellow Employment Services staff to find new job opportunities for clients as well as develop and maintain relationships with local employers.   
  • Attending all NC state-required meetings and accurately representing World Relief in all employment-related functions.   
  • Give oversight to employment interns and volunteers while collaborating with volunteer coordinator to ensure program responsibilities are fulfilled.   
  • Perform other duties as required. 


JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
  • Cross-cultural experience required
  • Strong Administration and multi-tasking skills required
  • MS Office skills required
  • Highly self-motivated with strong follow-through and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license, regular access to vehicle, and ability/willingness to drive clients to appointments
  • Occasional evenings or weekends required


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in volunteer or project coordination preferred
  • BA/BS and background in social services or case management preferred
  • Direct-service experience with vulnerable populations preferred
