Hi there!
We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Identity Team at Zapier. We are on a mission to scale our Authentication and Authorization systems across the product and platform to provide the Access Controls and User Management our customers need! Would you like to join us?
We know applying for and taking on a new job at any company requires a leap of faith. We want you to feel comfortable and excited to apply at Zapier. To help share a bit more about life at Zapier, here are a few resources in addition to the job description that can give you an inside look at what life is like at Zapier. Hopefully, you'll take the leap of faith and apply.
About You
You love shipping to customers. You’ll be on a full-stack team focused on understanding customers' needs and translating those needs from specifications into functional, production-ready code. You know how to balance speed versus quality to support the features we build used by millions of people.
You have backend expertise to bring to the team. You have at least 7+ years of software development experience building complex web-based products. You bring best practices and institutional knowledge to help the team succeed. Zapier is built on Python, Django, React, Node.js, MySQL, PostgreSQL and AWS. We use modern tools, which means you’ll have the opportunity to work with software like GitLab, Kubernetes, Terraform, and much more.
You have Authentication and Authorization knowledge. You have a strong understanding of Authentication protocols such as OAuth2, SAML, JWT, etc. Experience in implementing secure Authentication and Authorization mechanisms is crucial to the health and security of our platform.
You have worked on large, complex projects. You are familiar with micro-service architecture and have a strong sense of what good looks like to maintain the quality of systems. You understand how to design and build resilient code, make tradeoffs where necessary and embrace ambiguity as new challenges arise.
You foster collaboration and leadership. We pride ourselves in working together as a team, and with other teams across the organization. You'll often find opportunities to lead cross-functional projects and guide others involving various departments like Product, Design, Security, Legal, and Production Engineering. Strong communication is also essential as you’ll organize stakeholder needs, respond to bottlenecks, and keep everyone informed of progress.
You embody our values. At Zapier, our values are at the heart of how we work together and how we think about our customers. In our remote setting, they help develop trust and ensure we work and collaborate to democratize automation.
Things You’ll Do
Develop features and maintain our Authentication and Authorization systems to support the creation, expansion, and maintenance across our services as we scale.
Shape processes and tooling to support the monitoring and observability of our services (SLOs, Alerts, Dashboards).
Work cross-functionally with key stakeholders and partnering teams to communicate technical direction and understand their needs.
Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt or the most important areas to invest in.
Lead technical projects or initiatives to support the team and areas we own. This includes responding to bottlenecks and providing progress updates to stakeholders.
Mentor and guide other Engineers to support their growth.
Support internal and external customers during a weekly team rotation.
Join our yearly company retreats that rotate to various cities throughout North America to meet and collaborate with Zapiens in person.
How to Apply
At Zapier, we believe that diverse perspectives and experiences make us better, which is why we have a non-standard application process designed to promote inclusion and equity. We're looking for the best fit for each of our roles, regardless of the type of education or companies in your background, so we encourage you to apply even if your skills and experiences don’t exactly match the job description. All we ask is that you answer a few in-depth questions in our application that would typically be asked at the start of an interview process. This helps speed things up by letting us get to know you and your skillset a bit better right out of the gate. Please be sure to answer each question; the resume and CV fields are optional.
After you apply, you are going to hear back from us—even if we don’t see an immediate fit with our team. In fact, throughout the process, we strive to never go more than seven days without letting you know the status of your application. We know we’ll make mistakes from time to time, so if you ever have questions about where you stand or about the process, just ask your recruiter!
