The Sr. Business Systems Analyst (BSA) is a key component of our Life Product Management Team. The BSA works independently and under direction of Product Management to initiate, develop, and maintain reporting and data analyses on the life insurance business including regular product management reporting, monitoring of new lines of business, new products, new underwriting programs, competitive intelligence, and ad hoc reporting and analyses. The BSA manages Product Management’s relationship with ESD, gains access to all available data sources and helps create new data sources. The BSA designs and creates insightful and valuable data summaries to aid Product Management, Competitive Intelligence, and Operations in its role of managing the life insurance products, underwriting programs, competitive positioning, and other aspects of life insurance product management. The successful BSA utilizes their investigative skills and curiosity to make key observations, develop insights, and communicate their findings effectively and efficiently to Product Management, Pricing, Actuarial, Finance, Underwriting, Competitive Intelligence, New Business, Inforce Management, and other business associates through both formal and informal methods.
\n- Creation and maintenance of reports detailing the sales mix of our life insurance business including the identification of important and valuable insights on sales volumes, sales mix, and utilization.
- Supporting senior management initiatives through analyzing and communicating progress towards goals, identifying relevant trends, and creating robust reporting.
- Identifies data trends and anomalies, analyzes such trends and communicates appropriately to appropriate audiences.
- Responsible for designing and implementing a communication process to share results across the organization with a special emphasis on pricing, product, finance, competitive intelligence, inforce management, and risk areas as well as senior management.
- Anticipates the needs of key data consumers to effectively produce ad hoc reports in a timely manner with insightful and valuable data summaries that support the Product Management and associated roles.
- Regularly support Inforce Management on ongoing initiatives specifically by providing data and analyses to support critical work in flight.
- Work with the Experience Study Team to support new experience studies and provide insights for new product pricing & projection assumptions.
- Drive the LifeCycle Management Calendar and support the Momentum process by completing regularly scheduled work in analyzing success metrics of completed and ongoing projects.
- Support customer and agent requests for information along with the Product Managers. Evaluate these requests to proactively support if appropriate.
- Work with Excel, Access, SAS, SQL, and Power BI to efficiently work with large data sets.
- Validate their work and reporting and any new data sets to ensure completeness and accuracy related to their work product.
- Support the data and information needs of the Data Science team as needed.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, appropriately prioritize work, and negotiate responsibilities and timelines of deliverables as needed. Creatively adapt to unexpected changes in work plans, priorities and timelines.
- Willing to exercise curiosity to gain insights across many different systems including App Entry, ELI Illustrations, ALIAS systems. Gemini and other new business systems, NextGen, LifeComm, TLS-VUL, Dream and Callidus (Commissions and Licensing and Contracting).
- Solve data needs by considering business systems capacity and limitations, computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and desired outputs.
- Work with software developers and BSAs in other areas to gain understanding and insight and to apply these to their work.
- Create thorough documentation of work including iterating with Product Managers and others to produce the most complete and accurate work product.
- Demonstrate a thorough, detailed, working knowledge of various data sources.
- Diagnose, report, and manage software defects. Works with software developers to resolve problems and provide detailed diagnostic information as needed.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with data, finance, insurance, and Business Systems Analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree, with a focus in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or Math related field (will substitute 4 years of work and/or technical experience).
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Excellent presentation skills as well as general negotiation and meeting facilitation skills.
- Experience running queries in SQL.
- Experience with MS Office, with focus on Excel, Access.
- Experience with Power BI.
- Experience in the insurance industry, agent compensation, life policy administration or new product implementation.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Effective organizational skills.
- Strong self-development focus with an enthusiasm for learning and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work both individually and as part of a team to gather information with limited supervision and guidance.
