Job Description
We are looking for a skilled and experienced GIS Technical Lead and Support Engineer to join our team. This position encompasses both infrastructure and application support, ensuring the seamless integration and optimization of our development, security, and operations processes. You will specialize in maintaining and providing technical support for applications beyond the development stage, ensuring their smooth operation within the firm. You will be involved in close collaboration with development teams, infrastructure partners, and internal/external clients to address and resolve technical support incidents. You will be a proactive individual with excellent problem-solving skills who can work effectively across various teams.
As a GIS Technical Lead and Support Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Expertise in GIS Software:
- Proficiency in GIS software such as IQGEO, ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms is essential. The ability to utilize advanced features and functionalities is crucial.
- Knowledge of spatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, geoJSON, KML)
- Familiarity with web GIS platforms and mobile GIS applications
- Programming Skills:
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, JavaScript, or R is important for automating processes, developing custom tools, and integrating GIS with other systems
- Database Management:
- Knowledge of database management systems (DBMS) such as PostgreSQL, Oracle Spatial, or SQL Server is necessary for storing and managing spatial data efficiently
- Operations Support (GIS focus):
- Project Management:
- Ability to lead projects from conception to completion, including planning, scheduling, resource management, and coordination with stakeholders
- Problem-solving:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical issues, optimize workflows, and develop innovative solutions
- Communication:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex GIS concepts to non-technical stakeholders, as well as collaborate with team members
- Strong communication skills for providing clear and concise support instructions
- Ability to document procedures and create user guides
- Infrastructure Management:
- Experience with GIS cloud services (e.g., ArcGIS Online, AWS, Google Cloud Platform)
- Knowledge of server management and deployment for applications
- Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
- Strong skills in diagnosing and resolving software and hardware issues
- Experience with support ticketing systems
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment
- Willingness to collaborate with different departments to support operations
Qualifications
WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in GIS roles with increasing responsibility
- 2+ years of experience in production and operations support
BONUS POINTS FOR:
- Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., GISP, Esri Technical Certifications) are a plus.
- Past experience in Telecom domain is a plus
- Past experience with tools like Confluence, JIRA are a plus
