About the Group
Presentations & Whiteboards is a key group in Design Experience, responsible for those two doctypes. Working alongside the other Visual Worksuite doctypes. Presentations & Whiteboards has had an extraordinary year of growth with most of our key metrics hitting all time highs. Presentations now contributes 31.6% to Canva MAU, with 55 million monthly active users. Whiteboards is sitting at 8.8 million MAU with an all time high retention rate. The on-going mission is to become the #1 platform in the world for storytelling and collaboration.
While we have shipped world class products, there is still much to be done. We have a packed upcoming road map of features that will take both Presentations & Whiteboards to new heights. Expect a strong focus on both AI/ML integration, interactivity, drawing, and other power user features.
About the Team
The PW - Platform team is a backend-specific engineering org that owns and maintains all the varying BE services that underpin the Presentations & Whiteboards group. Its members work closely with the 3 FE teams in the broader group to help develop new features as well as upgrade and maintain existing services.
What you’ll do (responsibilities)
- Working with designers and product managers to scope out new features, functionality, and technical requirements.
- Proposing and implementing innovative approaches and solutions to ensure we future-proof features.
- Passionately seek solutions to challenges with a scale and performance angle - be motivated by the idea of debugging, benchmarking, building exciting things, and picking up new technologies and skills as you grow.
- Participating in code review processes, as a code author and a reviewer.
What we're looking for
- Passion for great UX, storytelling and collaboration.
- Having worked to build and ship impactful product and/or changes.
- Consideration for performance, especially as it relates to a great product experience.
- Commercial experience in a software development environment, ideally with experience in building frameworks, libraries or APIs.
- Broad knowledge of Cloud (AWS), Networking, and OS (Linux) concepts, services, and best practices.
- Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
- Previous experience in working collaboratively with team members and communicating effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others.
- Good writing and verbal communication skills.
