Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have a choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
Job Description
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand multi-team administrative requirements and designing scalable solutions.
- Helping the team to deliver a great user experience to administrators for managing large-scale enterprises.
- Leading continuous improvement efforts within your team.
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to the team’s domain as and when they arise, and being part of team’s rostered on call rotation.
- Providing on-call support for critical Canva services.
- Staying updated on industry trends and best practices to innovate and improve the domain owned by the team.
You're probably a match if
- Five-plus (5+) years of commercial experience developing complex, distributed applications with Java (our code is mostly Java 17).
- Disciplined coding practices, and experience with code reviews and pull requests. You model best practices to your peers.
- Strong communication and team collaboration skills, both written and verbal. A Canva engineer strives to understand the exact problem before jumping into writing code.
- While not required, commercial experience with protocol buffers is an advantage.
- All of our services are built on AWS. While not required, commercial experience with AWS services like DynamoDB, and SNS/SQS is an advantage.

The Admin Experience Group is on a mission to revolutionise how large teams utilise and administrate Canva. We deeply understand the needs of our diverse customers, ranging from classrooms to workplaces. Our primary focus is to design new features that empower our users with flexible configuration and robust team management capabilities.
As a close-knit group, we thrive on collaborative problem-solving and brainstorming sessions, where we come together to tackle challenges and generate innovative ideas.
