The Legal team at Chainalysis advises both internal and external stakeholders on the forefront of cryptocurrency and its constantly evolving regulatory landscape. Our job is to ensure the company continues its rapid growth by employing sound and efficient judgment to support operations around the company and influence a groundbreaking industry as it matures and becomes more widely adopted.
The Director of Privacy and Data Protection will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of privacy compliance and data protection within Chainalysis. This individual will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and initiatives to to drive compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations. Additionally, this individual will have the opportunity to cover a broader range of responsibilities including, serving as the primary legal resource for the security team, as well as data collection and intelligence teams within the R&D organization.
In this role, you’ll:
Manage and scale policies and procedures in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, including but not limited to, GDPR, CCPA, and other emerging privacy and security standards
Oversee the handling of privacy impact assessments (PIAs), data subject access requests (DSARs), privacy related questions in customer RFP’s, and other privacy related inquiries
Advise business teams and other legal team members on all relevant data privacy and security laws and regulations
Help respond to, investigate, and spearhead legal support for potential data and security incidents
Act as the “go-to” legal resource for all issues pertaining to developing, managing, protecting, and productizing the Chainalysis data moat
Embrace advocacy opportunities when it comes to emerging trends and best practices in privacy regulations and compliance
Provide product counseling support for our data collection and intelligence teams
We’re looking for candidates who have:
A juris doctorate degree and relevant experience with high-growth companies
Experience advising on privacy and data protection, with an understanding of key global privacy regimes, in particular in GDPR and CCPA/CPRA
Strong drafting, analytical, and critical thinking skills as well as commercial acumen
Experience enabling innovative products in a risk-managed capacity, preferably at a SaaS company with complex data structures
An ability to translate legalese into vernacular that everyone can understand
Unmatched judgment and experience resolving complex issues with integrity and confidentiality
A problem-solving mindset where ambiguity feels empowering instead of challenging
A knack for building trust with internal and external stakeholders
Nice to have experience:
Expertise in nuanced issues around data collection related to licensing and technology
Understanding of financial crimes and regulations
You’re keenly aware of the IPO-journey and which issues to optimize for at each stage of the process
You have broad domain knowledge encompassing the many facets of product counseling
You have a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) designation or other similar certification
A crypto or FinTech background
To provide greater transparency to candidates, we share base salary ranges for all United States based job listings. We set standard base salary ranges for all roles based on function, level, and location, benchmarked against technology companies. Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, relevant work experience, skillset, internal equity, and other factors, consistent with applicable law.
The salary range for this position is dependent on where you live within the United States. Chainalysis maintains two pay zones:
Zone 1 includes the New York City metro area and the San Francisco Bay Area
Zone 2 encompasses all other parts of the United States
The salary ranges are:
Zone 1: $182K -$261K- $340K
Zone 2: $160K -$229K- $298K
Base salary is just one part of our total rewards package which additionally includes equity, performance bonus or commissions for eligible roles, and competitive benefits. This position is ineligible for visa sponsorship.
