So, what’s the role?
We are currently looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst to join our Data and Analytics team. Kin at its core is built on data, this team is not only providing analytics about what happened in the past but utilizing data to predict the now and the future! As a Business Intelligence Analyst, you will play a key role in the analytic/discovery process across the organization.
You will work with internal leadership to define and structure critical datasets and data consumption layers, and will collaborate with engineering to ingest, clean, and analyze data from multiple sources. You will be responsible for maintaining the single source of truth for various stakeholders, optimizing the cadence of ETL processes, and automating data reporting processes.
In order to be successful for this role, you will need to be creative, empathetic, self-directed, and curious. You will be able to learn quickly about our customers (both internal and external), and be excited to propose solutions that drive customer satisfaction. Using your influence and persuasion with internal stakeholders to align on and adopt these solutions is critical for success in this role.
A day in the life could include:
Working with Accounting, Finance, and Compliance departments to determine solutions to key business problems
Work with databases to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data for analysis. Ensure ETL processes are scalable and reliable
Collaborate with stakeholders and other BI analysts to gather new business use cases and requirements; work with BI leadership to construct project plans and delivery timelines
Partner with data engineers on the ingestion of new data sources: communicating requirements, validating data quality, and ensuring projects meet all necessary deadlines
Identify opportunities for new data structures or consumption layers based on new product launches, changes in business practice, changes in regulation, themes in ad-hoc requests from business users, etc
Use analytics tools to monitor data quality and ETL process run-times; help identify root causes of data quality issues and weak points in data pipelines; recommend/implement necessary improvements
Use domain knowledge to assist BI analysts and business users with ad-hoc requests
I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field or equivalent professional experience
3+ years of work experience in analytics, accounting, finance, compliance, risk management, regulatory reporting or equivalent analytical experience
Advanced skills in SQL with a proven track record to independently query data from disparate sources
Moderate familiarity with ETL processes: structuring new datasets and data-pipelines to meet business needs
Moderate experience in Python for data analysis and transformation
Experience working with modern data solutions (EX: Looker/Tableau/Power BI)
Strong business acumen to make sense of and bring logic to data
Ability to turn incomplete, conflicting, or ambiguous inputs into concrete action plans
Experience owning process management or process improvement projects
Ability to communicate with empathy and precision to gain alignment with internal stakeholders
Ability to effectively communicate with engineers about technical features and product architecture
Bonus Points:
Comfortable in a startup environment or working with ambiguity. Fintech/Insurtech a plus.
