Job Description
NBCUniversal is seeking a talented and experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our Legal, Privacy, and Sustainability Software Engineering Organization within Corporate Technology.
As the Tech Lead for the Privacy Software Engineering team, you will play a critical role in architecting and developing the Privacy Platform. The platform will be designed to seamlessly integrate with various systems, enabling the stakeholders to efficiently manage privacy and compliance requests while upholding the highest standards of data protection.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and implementation of a highly scalable, and resilient integration system using AWS CDK (Cloud Development Kit) with TypeScript.
- Implement Infrastructure-as-Code and automated release management, ensuring the platform's scalability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the Privacy Platform adheres to the highest security and compliance standards, safeguarding sensitive data and maintaining regulatory compliance across all processes.
- Engage as part of an Agile scrum software development team contributing to scrum ceremonies and collaborating with product owners and other engineers.
- Foster a culture of excellence within the development team by championing code quality, performing code review, and adhering to best practices in software engineering.
- Stay abreast of the latest industry trends and technologies related to event-driven architectures, workflow automation, and privacy compliance. Proactively propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance the platform's capabilities and adapt to evolving business needs.
- Actively contribute to and maintain the project codebase, demonstrating the ability to architect, develop, and enhance complex software solutions.
- Work with stakeholders to create technical requirements from business requirements.
- Work with the Engineering Manager, Technical Department Lead, and Technical Squad Leads to assess the scope of requested changes.
- Oversee technical designs for product-scoped technical requirements that align with Team, Department, and Enterprise Standards.
- Oversee code reviews, ensuring that code quality and performance standards are met across all squads.
- Provide technical guidance and direction across squads, ensuring alignment with the Technical Department Lead.
- Maintain an overview of squads' progress, ensuring that projects are on track and communicating any risks with the Engineering Manager.
- Mentor and support Technical Squad Leads and other team members.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required from a four-year college or university, or comparable workforce experience is required; majors in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field preferred
- 7+ years of work experience as a software engineer, with a strong focus on backend and middleware solutions, including API, compute, application-level networking, and security.
- 5+ years of experience working with a Public Cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP), with at least 3 years specifically in AWS.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and ability to solve complex technical problems
- Ability to work well within a team environment, experience working remotely with widely distributed teams a plus
- Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative and self-motivation
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with teammates, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders
- Strong track record of delivering on time and within budget
- Expertise in Typescript and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) with a strong understanding of design principles such as SOLID, YAGNI, DRY, etc.
- Expertise working with REST APIs and understanding of OAuth flows (Postman a plus) with a strong emphasis on integrating and interacting with third-party APIs
- Expertise with Git tooling required (GitHub preferred), including managing code repositories, implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, and configuring deployment workflows for automated deployments across multiple environments
- Expertise in creating practical, sound designs based on product team requirements and collaborating with the Technical Squad Leads and Technical Department Lead
- Expertise with VS Code preferred (adaptability and willingness to use VS Code required)
- Proficiency with Agile/Scrum practices
Desired Characteristics:
- Knowledge and comfort with Agile development methodologies
- AWS certification would be a strong plus, showcasing proficiency and expertise in AWS services.
- Experience working remotely and with widely distributed teams
- Experience with relational databases: querying, basic administration, development, etc. (PostgreSQL preferred)
