We are looking for a Counsel to join our remote-first team and take a primary role supporting our fast-moving credit card business and support other dynamic business units working in regulated spaces. As a member of our awesome and lean legal team, you will work with our General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel and be expected to accelerate our velocity by engaging with the business to efficiently and proactively identify ways to increase opportunity, mitigate risk, and eliminate legal blockers. This role will have two areas of focus, both central to our business. First, working with our team as a generalist with a diverse focus on interesting and exciting projects. Second, this role will focus on payments and credit specific work with our excellent card team. ABOUT THE ROLE 🤹♀️
Working with our team, you will:
- Act as a partner to internal business teams on a variety of practice areas including, among other things: agreements, compliance, privacy, security, marketing, and financial regulations
- Provide strong technical and commercial excellence to identify legal risk and find innovative solutions to any issues as they arise
- Become a subject matter expert on the credit card program and relevant statutes and regulations, e.g. Reg. Z and FCRA
- Lead work designing and delivering cutting edge compliance systems
- Collaborate to manage external counsel
- Build trust and collaborate directly and regularly with business stakeholders
- Stay apprised of relevant regulatory development and work with our government affairs team

ABOUT YOU 🦄
- JD degree & current admission
- 4+ years of relevant legal experience at a law firm or in-house (with at least 2 years consecutively within one of your recent roles preferred)
- Regulatory counseling experience, ideally with credit card or payments focus
- Experience with a fast-growing startup environment preferred
- Ability to proactively, efficiently, and accurately assess and communicate legal business risks in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with any of the following is worth noting when you apply: financial regulation, payments/credit cards, ADR, marketing compliance, IP, or data privacy/security.
- Track record of creative problem-solving and creation of strong and trusted cross-functional relationships
- Proactive personality and eagerness to dig in and learn about the business, the industry, and new areas of the law and applicable regulations
- Interested in becoming a subject matter expert
- Willing to lean in cross-functionally to drive business growth
- Our team brings a product focused mindset with an eye towards collaborative, integrated problem solving. Experience working with product, marketing, data, and engineering teams to provide actionable counsel (or with any form of technology team) either as a lawyer or in other career phases is likely to be helpful.

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skill, and experience.
Salary range of $135,000.00-$155,000.00/year + bonus + benefits is anticipated.
