As a Litigation Support and Third Party Demands Specialist you will provide essential support to the Legal & Regulatory team. Reporting to the Director, Legal (Capital Markets Risk & Disputes) your core responsibilities will involve litigation paralegal functions, including litigation management, the intake and response to third party demands and production orders, and administrative duties, contributing to the efficient operation of the Legal & Regulatory team. Your job will be to help Wealthsimple evolve and simplify the management and response to all third party demands and disputes to ensure Wealthsimple is meeting its legal and regulatory obligations as we continue to grow.
\n- Manage all incoming Third-Party Requests and assist with the handling of all escalations related to Third Party Demands.
- Manage the intake, prioritization, coordination and response to all Production Orders/Court Orders received at Wealthsimple and its subsidiaries including responding and cooperating with requests made by Law Enforcement agencies, Securities Commissions, and other regulatory bodies to fulfill legal obligations.
- Support the management of litigation files by organizing case files, coordinating with external counsel, and tracking deadlines.
- Provide administrative support to the Legal & Regulatory team, including communication facilitation, and information gathering.
- Support the Director, Legal (Capital Markets Risk & Disputes) by participating in ad-hoc initiatives including organizing and maintaining documentation and helping implement necessary adjustments to legal processes.
- Draft and review legal correspondence, including letters, memoranda, and reports.
- Assist the Director, Legal (Capital Markets Risk & Disputes) in gathering information and documents to support the defence and advancement of litigation claims.
- Any other clerical duties to support the Legal & Regulatory team, as required.
- 2-5 years of demonstrated success in a litigation management or paralegal role within a law firm or in-house legal team at an established and fast-moving business or law firm.
- Post-secondary education in a paralegal, business or related legal program (university or college degree).
- Experience managing the intake and coordination of responses to third party demands and production orders.
- Strong knowledge of litigation paralegal functions and legal procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, etc.).
- Project management and organizational skills that can be used to balance competing priorities.
- Familiarity with case management and external counsel invoicing software.
- Experience working at a financial institution is an asset.
