Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic app, bringing a simpler way to send, spend, invest, and save to our millions of monthly active users.
As part of the Design Systems team, you will have the opportunity to take the systems function at Cash App to the next level. Design systems define and systematize our design language, making Cash a beacon of craft, cohesion, and efficiency, all while ensuring design and code synchronicity.
Our Design System is in an exciting period. We’ve just launched our new tokens and components, we’re midway through migrating to our new infrastructure, and we’re about to tackle some of the biggest pattern challenges and foundational improvements in the history of Cash App. Our team is looking for a seasoned designer to drive major cross-functional initiatives and take ownership of core pillars in the systems function.
You will:
- Help execute on the vision for design systems, owning ambiguous cross-functional and horizontal initiatives.
- Build complex components, evolve foundations, and define pattern libraries.
- Work autonomously, balancing ongoing long-term workstreams with strategic partners, and managing day-to-day system maintenance.
- Advocate and evolve our collaboration models through the ebb and flow of organizational growth, product maturity, and platform challenges
- Evolve and drive documentation efforts for the design system from foundational onboarding to usage guidelines.
- Explore and build tooling (Figma or other) that improves the system and the UX for our users.
- Be an ear to the ground of the entire organization, looking to connect the dots in our ecosystem
Qualifications
You have:
- 8+ years of experience working in user experience, product, or relevant design field
- 4+ years experience working in an explicit design systems role
- Experience successfully designing, building, and maintaining design systems at scale within a large product organization
- Strong user interface and visual design fitness
- Patience and passion for supporting designers and elevating craft
- Proficiency with current UI and product workflow tools (figma, airtable, notion, etc.) and comfortable speaking to modern display layer technologies (Token Schemas, APIs, Swift, React, etc)
- Been mistaken for an engineer or design engineer before
- Experience working with distributed teams in multiple time zones and an affinity for designing and facilitating asynchronous collaborative work
- Past work experience showcasing the ability to define major workstreams, communicate a plan and success measurement framework, and then execute
- The spidey sense to recognize patterns most people don’t see in the organization, and the ability to facilitate collaborative efforts to connect the dots
- Experience working with creative directors, motion designers, and illustrators as well as product designers, engineers, and product managers
- The same love for brand as you do product
- A portfolio showcasing systems initiatives you’ve designed for varying platforms and devices (iOS, Andr, Responsive Web, etc) in a variety of speed, scale, and complexity.
Even better:
- Past projects that showcase major systems evolution or expansion (such as redesigns, theming, modes, platforms, or a11y/i18n)
- Prior experience designing for consumer apps
- Ability to write code for prototyping, documentation, or infrastructure
