About the job
This position is needed to help build up the core platform for one of the most strategically important products in Twilio.
Our team is responsible for an omni-channel messaging platform that seamlessly connects SMS, Whatsapp, email and several other channels, for solutions both internal and external to Twilio. Besides the challenge of continuously enriching our solution with new and exciting features, there is also the need to scale and care for our ever growing customer base - expected to increase exponentially during these next years.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Contribute to building of Conversations Services and Tools
- Deliver new product features and help the team make our services more resilient
- Participate in Product Backlog grooming and estimation processes along with other Agile ceremonies
- Contribute to design and feature ideas and betterments to the backlog
- Automate manual processes and develop tools (in accordance with Rules of Engagement) to avoid repetitive work
- Write top class code and cover it with unit, integration, cluster and end-to-end tests to achieve high levels of code coverage and detect defects early
- Deploy code to the cloud; learn and use AWS tools like DynamoDB, SQS, ElasticCache, etc. and maintain operational excellence through Runbooks & Metrics
- Learn Twilio’s distributed system and microservice architecture through Senior engineers, Principals and Architects

Required:
- 2-4 years of experience with building, maintaining and scaling backend services in Java.
- 2-4 years of experience writing production level web applications and/or customer facing web SDKs
- Experience in Javascript, Typescript, NodeJS, HTML, and CSS
- Experience in Web Components, React/JSX, Vue, Angular, or equivalent UI frameworks
- Experience in browser APIs and optimizing frontend performance
- Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms and Java fundamentals
- Strong fundamental knowledge of software development best practices for RESTful service implementation.
- Oral and written communication skills: be prepared to frequently propose and discuss ideas and implementation with your teammates, as well as involving other stakeholders in Twilio - we’re one single team, no one flies solo!
- Curious mindset - we’re not looking for someone with all the answers, but rather someone who is prepared to grow with us.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.
Desired:
- Experience developing for AWS services - DynamoDB, SQS, and more.
- Docker and containerisation in general - K8 would be a plus.
- Experience in test-driven development
- Experience participating in development for large scale services.
Location
This role will be remote from Estonia.
Travel
