In this role you will be an important strategic advisor for the company. You will be a key member of the legal team and will partner with leaders across the company to shape and lead the company’s privacy strategy and program. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a work environment focused on delivering high quality patient care and one that fosters respect, positive communication, collaboration, and teamwork.
This role reports to the General Counsel. You will be part of a collegial legal team, and will have significant exposure to core elements of the business while you operate as a trusted advisor to the company’s stakeholders. There will be significant opportunity to use your expertise in the areas of privacy and related regulatory frameworks as you lead these critical matters for the company. You will play a key role in building a commercially-oriented culture in the legal team that works collaboratively with the rest of the organization to help keep Virta safe while it grows and achieves its mission.
Responsibilities
Manage the company’s privacy strategy and program. Track the evolving legal landscape in state and federal government, and provide practical guidance for ongoing compliance. Develop, evolve and oversee policies and frameworks that enable compliant uses of data throughout the company.
Work closely with the company’s product, engineering, information security and other internal teams on the privacy aspects of our product offerings’ development, implementation and maintenance, as well as related operations and processes of the company.
Track Artificial Intelligence regulations and provide support developing and implementing related compliance measures.
Partner with the company’s sales and procurement teams, including presenting and negotiating privacy and related regulatory positions, and the drafting of same. Work closely with sales and product teams to field and resolve customer, vendor and other third party inquiries regarding privacy and related regulatory topics.
Provide internal training on privacy matters, effectively translating legal advice into meaningful guidance for innovative business teams.

Must-Haves
Licensed attorney in at least one U.S. state, with 5+ years privacy experience
Articulate problem solver with expert knowledge of data privacy and protection laws as well as knowledge of health benefit plans, healthcare regulations, including corporate practice of medicine, telemedicine, fraud and abuse rules.
Extremely practical, business oriented approach to practicing law within a company setting
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate to all organizational levels
Excellent project management, drafting (clear and streamlined), negotiation and interpersonal skills
Positive attitude with ownership and accountability mentality

Virta has a location based compensation structure. Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience.
