About the job
You will be part of Astronomer’s open-source engineering team, focusing on developing open-source libraries that efficiently integrate other technologies into Apache Airflow. You will be a pivotal contributor to the Astronomer Open Source team and help ensure that engineering best practices are the core of each deliverable.
Your focus will be on identifying, designing, developing, and implementing Open-Source software that improves the experience of data practitioners using Airflow in conjunction with other data technologies.
You will have the chance to engage with Astronomer customers and developers from the Apache Airflow project, a thriving open-source community with thousands of global contributors.
What You Get To Do
Develop and improve the integration of Apache Airflow with other technologies, in particular how we write DAGs (Direct Acyclic Graphs)
Work closely with team members to achieve project goals and deliver high-quality results.
Support other engineers to expose these libraries within Astro Cloud
Liaise with customers, troubleshooting issues and providing solutions
Contribute to the Airflow Ecosystem and steward the open-source community
Promote the developed open-source projects at conferences and events
What You Bring To The Role
Proven experience as a Python developer, with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience
Good at writing unit tests, and an appreciation of different forms of automated testing
Demonstrated ability to think creatively and explore new ideas
Experience in troubleshooting complex issues
Strong knowledge of building scalable and distributed systems
A proactive approach to learning and staying updated with industry trends
Recognize the importance of cooperation and encourage it by being a good listener, sharing information, and offering support and feedback
Communication skills that allow you to know what to say and, more importantly, how to say it in various mediums (Github, Slack, Zoom, email, pair programming sessions)
Bonus points if you have:
Experience with Apache Airflow in production environments
Worked with Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, ETL Technologies, or other analytics solutions
Contributions to Open Source projects
Knowledge of Kubernetes & Docker
Built and maintained CI/CD pipelines
