About us
At Dagster Labs, we’re empowering data engineers to build productive and scalable data platforms. We’re a small team with a proven track record of shipping open source software with global adoption. We put a premium on respectful and clear communication, and we expect each other to be creative, curious, effective, and empathetic. We believe deeply that the right tools and abstractions enable technological transformation and organizational transformation. Our first product at Dagster Labs is an open-source data orchestrator called Dagster. Data practitioners and engineers use Dagster to build and monitor data pipelines more efficiently. Our goal is to make Dagster the de facto standard for orchestrating the modern data stack. In 2021 we launched Dagster+, a paid SaaS offering of Dagster, and it’s growing quickly. Dagster+ makes it even easier for data practitioners to get started with Dagster and is the most productive way to build an enterprise-grade data platform today.
About the role
As a product designer at Dagster Labs you’ll help shape the future of Dagster, creating high-quality UIs, interactions and prototypes. We care deeply about design – this means designers have influence over how things work and look across our users’ end-to-end journey.
You’ll work alongside a supportive team of design peers, engineers, and product leaders with high standards for execution. Designers at Dagster Labs are empowered to engage directly with Dagster’s community of open-source users (you can join our community Slack here to check it out for yourself). We build in public and ship weekly: this allows us to iterate quickly and constantly seek feedback from our users and community. We’re a small team of generalists with an ambitious mission and there’s no shortage of interesting design challenges across Dagster Core and Dagster+.
What you’ll do
As a product designer at Dagster Labs you will:
- Lead end-to-end design projects, working closely with stakeholders to ship high quality features quickly
- Produce design artifacts (UI explorations, prototypes, user flows) that guide development efforts to address real user and business needs
- Seek out new feature opportunities and improvements that make Dagster a joy to use
- Identify and fix problems and gaps that you discover
- Engage with the Dagster open-source community, Dagster+ customers, and customer support teams, to understand user needs and validate designs
- Shape the future direction of Dagster Core and Dagster+. This includes UI, documentation, website, and APIs
- Collaborate with front-end and design team peers to evolve our design system and brand
This is a full-time, competitively paid position with benefits. We have offices across the U.S. and flexible working hours. Every employee is provided a remote work stipend to cover the cost of home office equipment and anything else that makes your remote work location comfortable, productive, or successful. New to Data? No problem. We believe that diverse experiences and backgrounds are an asset, enabling us to bring fresh perspectives to the problem space. Some of us are steeped in the data domain; some of us are not. It is a way of structurally having a “beginner’s mindset”, examining problems from first principles. Meanwhile, the experience on the team keeps us grounded in the reality of the current state of the ecosystem and the practical problems on the ground.
