Description
The Collateral Underwriting Assistant will support senior underwriters by reviewing and analyzing collateral for residential loans. Additionally, the assistant will help prepare reports and presentations and stay updated on industry regulations and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior underwriters in reviewing and analyzing collateral for residential loans.
- Perform detailed assessments of property values, appraisals, and market conditions to determine the adequacy of collateral.
- Ensure all collateral documentation complies with internal guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with appraisers, brokers, and loan officers to gather necessary information and resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor market trends and property conditions to assess risk factors associated with collateral.
- Maintain accurate records of all collateral assessments and communicate findings to the underwriting team.
- Provide recommendations on collateral adequacy and assist in making decisions on loan approvals.
- Support the preparation of underwriting reports and presentations for internal stakeholders.
- Stay updated on industry regulations, underwriting guidelines, and best practices.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in finance, business, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Experience using Encompass loan origination software is a huge plus.
- Prior experience with US mortgage processing is required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Some experience in underwriting, loan processing, or similar roles is an advantage.
- Familiarity with various mortgage types (Conventional, FHA, VA) is a plus.
