This role will focus on creating and refining actionable, authoritative content that resonates with audiences in the legal and information governance industries, including law firms, CIOs, IG teams, IT managers, and records management providers.
If you are knowledgeable about legal data governance and compliance regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), digital transformation, AI-driven information management, and the operational challenges of migrating to modern tools, we’d love to hear from you!
*Please note that we don’t work with writers who subcontract their work.
Responsibilities:
Edit and refine content focused on legal and information governance topics like compliance, data mobility, retention processes, and ethical AI use.
Collaborate with writers to produce content tailored for law firms and records management providers, as well as corporate legal departments and IT & records teams at educational institutions.
Comprehensively understand client products and services to effectively align content with business goals.
QA content for factual accuracy, grammar, and tone, ensuring it aligns with the Omniscient style guide.
Provide detailed feedback to writers on areas for improvement and optimization.
Fact-check legal terminology, regulations, quotes, statistics, and sources to ensure credibility.
Manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively within client specifications.
Suggest best practices for improving SEO-driven content in alignment with industry trends.
Communicate regularly with the managing editor to discuss priorities and content strategies.
Stringently meet deadlines with quick turnarounds (24-48 hours, planned).
Comprehensively understand the capabilities and differentiators of our client’s products and services.
Manage complex information and multiple projects within content specifications and budget restrictions.
Implement comprehensive technical documentation, feedback, and changes whenever possible.
Utilize our style guide to ensure editorial consistency across client work.
Edit a variety of articles and article types for clarity, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Who you are:
You're experienced in legal editing. You have 2-3 years of experience editing content for legal, IT, or compliance-driven industries. You bring expertise in working with highly regulated sectors, particularly in creating and refining content related to data governance, compliance, and technology solutions that address legal and IT challenges.
You’re knowledgeable. You understand key regulations like GDPR, CCPA, and other global data protection laws. You are also familiar with emerging trends such as the shift from legacy systems to cloud-based solutions, the adoption of AI for smarter workflows, and the challenges of hybrid work environments in secure data management.
You’re meticulous. You leave no rock unturned, no modifier dangling.
You seek feedback. Working with our clients and editorial team, you’re eager to grow your skill set and hone your craft.
You believe in punctuality. Deadlines are not optional for you.
You’re an intellectually curious critical thinker. Time bends and morphs into meaninglessness as you find yourself researching topics and delving into etymologies.
You’re process-oriented. You try to be as efficient as possible.
You’re adaptable. Change is inevitable, and you’re ok with that.
You’re great at working independently. You’re comfortable setting and achieving your own goals and can communicate when you need assistance.
Job Qualifications and Technical Skill Sets:
Degree in law, compliance, or a related field with 2+ years of editing or writing experience in legal or IT-focused topics. You can combine your expert-level industry knowledge, robust client documentation, and thorough research to help produce content that aligns with our client’s expectations and speaks to their audience.
Deep understanding of data compliance regulations (GDPR, CCPA), digital transformation, and governance challenges in the legal and governance space.
Knowledge of the legal and information governance. You have a strong understanding of how legal professionals, records managers, and IT teams communicate and the common challenges they face in governance and data mobility.
SEO experience. You know how to search-optimize your content without sacrificing quality, and you can balance the needs of both your client and reader within your content.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and healthy analytical and critical thinking skills. You’re skilled at finding the story within complicated topics and can capture our client’s brand voice in every piece of writing.
Time management and organizational skills. You always meet your deadlines—or communicate in advance when you may need a deadline pushed back.
Strong communication skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear, concise content.
Experience with both print and digital media formats. You’re also proficient in word processor programs such as Microsoft Word and Google Docs and PDF software such as Adobe Acrobat.
Positive attitude. You’re kind, passionate, curious, and friendly! You’re open to exploring new ideas, keep updated on trending topics in the legal industry, and feel passionately about crafting excellent content. You welcome feedback and love learning how to improve your craft.
Other Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with legal tech, tools, and platforms used in records management and data governance (e.g., DMS, CRM).
Understanding of ROI metrics and the business impact of governance solutions.
Published work addressing legal or IT compliance challenges.
Portfolio
A recent portfolio with legal editing experience is a must. Please submit 3-5 sample articles published within the past three years for consideration*. At least 2 of these should be legal-related.
* Older samples will be accepted only if accompanied by newer works.
