JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: We are searching for an Accountant to join the Post Award team in our Accounting Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). This position will be primarily responsible for the closeout of awards. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Analyze program costs and ensure compliance with the contract terms and conditions and university policies Perform journal entries as necessary Confirm proper invoicing and posting of income Prepare rate verifications for financial closeout documentation, and verify all final contractual documentation has been provided to the sponsor Act as a liaison with key stakeholders to include ARL Contracts, ARL Accounting, Research Accounting, ARL Property, and ARL Technical Offices in order to perform the assigned tasking Prepare special invoices and provide financial backup as necessary for a subset of agreements Additional duties such as status tracking and maintaining a closeout listing; identifying, implementing, and streamlining process improvements; and writing/updating internal standard operating procedures Ad-hoc exercises as they arise Required skills and experience include: Strong problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills Detail-oriented Strong interpersonal skills Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and written Ability to adapt to change in a fast paced environment Ability to work independently Intermediate experience with Excel Preferred skills include: Proficient knowledge of government and industrial grants and contracts Successful completion of the PSU ACES course Basic knowledge of Word, Power Point, and Outlook 3+ years of experience in commercial Enterprise Resource Planning system, such as SAP or Oracle e-Business Suite An active government security clearance This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred. Your working location can be fully remote, hybrid (onsite/work from home), or fully on-site in State College, PA.
